I'm so bummed out.......Just got my final grade for gen chem II and it was a B. I feel like I worked my butt off, when I took my final I had an A. The professor said that it was going to hard to get an A in his class 'cause it was the only class he didn't get an A, I had an A before I took the final and felt very good about the final test. Has this ever happened to any of you, could he be such a-hole not give me an A...even though I got it. Is it OK to ask for the test back?😡 😡

I would say it's definitely OK for you to SEE the test to see what you missed, but as far as being able to keep it, some profs have a problem with that b/c they like to keep records and/or resue the exams.

I made B's in both Chem 1 and 2, b/c I wasn't planning on pre-med yet and a B in it was fine for an engineering major. I hope this doesn't hurt me now, since they are 4 hour classes.😕

I think the professor needs to substantiate the grade. If you had an A before the exam, you should have a strong chance for an A final grade, especially in gen chem. There may have been a calculation error on the exam. The only time I wasn't allowed to view an exam was when I received an A instead of the B I was expecting in an upper level bio class. I think the professor didn't even grade the exam, just made subjective assesments.

I would go ask the prof to see it. Be as non pre-med as possible (i.e. concerned and not grade obsessing). The prof should be able to give percentage cut-offs for grades and where you stand. I was a TA for gen chem 1...so I'm not just talking from my rear end. Explain how you had an A prior to the exam, etc. Usually, profs don't want to be @ssholes. Wish you luck.

go to the prof. and ask what you missed... this is a common pre-med story... I suggest that you don't stress over it. work on EC's and take upper div science classes that will bump up your bcmp GPA. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm also worried about how I'm going to do in O-chem since I got that B. But I will definately contact my professor and ask to let me see the test.

If he published his grading scale at the beginning of the class, then you should be able to get the test back and do the math. If he left it up to his own subjective mood, you can still ask for the test back but may have a hard time arguing that you deserve an A.

Still, tho, a B is fine. Get A's in Organic and nobody will care about one B in general...

B.

Don't stress, one B is not gonna kill ya. Even if you worked your ass off, B's happen. 😛

B in gen chem?? WTF r u stressing about? I just got a B in Biochem and a C+ in stupid genetics! GRAARARHHHH!! There goes my whole semester! +pissed+

Ok, I'm fine now. 🙂

Its ok, i got nothing but B's this semester🙁

guess i will make a horrible doctor😕

don't worry about o-chem with repsect to g-chem. o-chem is about pushing electrons from place to place and memorization.

i got B's in both g-chems and an A's in both o-chems and I'm interviewing.

I got a B in Gen Chem II.

I also got a B in each semester of Orgo.

Oh, and I got B's in Physics too, and some Biology courses.

I even got a C in P-Chem.

Keep your head up,

A B in general chemistry is not bad. I got a B in two quarters of general chemistry, and I got A's in organic. Don't worry too much.

Hey I totally know what you mean. I had an A in my calculus class going into the final exam. And I ended up getting a B in the course. And I really worked like a DOG in this course too. I had tutoring 1-2 times per week and spent countless hours studying, doing HW and what not.

Oh am I ever bummed out. But, not to worry, one B won't kill you. And a B is actually a good grade.

I dont get all these conspiracy theories in math/science classes. Usually the intro classes are huge and the prof doesnt know many students personally, let alone enough to want to "screw anyone". Also, finals are worth a lot (depending on school and class, anywhere from as low as 25 to as high as 50%), so I dont really think its the prof randomly assigning grades.

That said, it is definitely worth it to get your test back. There can definitely be mistakes in grading or whatnot. But until you do, i dont think its fair to assume that the prof "made up the grade" or something like that.

A B in gen chem is not bad at all...

it looks like this prof that you're talking about is a real jerk.... one thing to keep in mind though... if you go to fight out your grade situation with him... chances are that he has been in the situation before and can wiggle himself out of it... (so be prepared!)

and most importantly good luck! 😉

Hi there,
I got three (!!!) quarter's worth of B's in Gen Chem. It seemed like no matter what I did I kept on getting 'em. Then I got A's in orgo...hearing from the other posters, I'm curious...Is there a correlation between doing so-so in gen chem and doing better in orgo (not including that it's later in your college career and you've got a better handle on things) vs. doing good in gen-chem and not doing as well in orgo?
