(B-) is the difference between getting in or not!!!

I was wondering how the med schools admission committees add up the + and - on letter grades. Do they add them to the science G.P.A or do they consider the letter grade to plainly be a B?

because I got a B- in physics.

AMCAS counts it as a 2.7 I believe. If it is your only grade below B then I wouldn't sweat it.

Unless you're applying in Texas-- the TMDSAS doesn't count + or -, so a B- is counted as 3.0 🙂 (this was the case last year, at least)

I have a few B-'s on my transcript... dont scare me like that guys. B- in general bio!!! but A's in upper div bios.

For select schools, AMCAS actually counts a B- as 2.5

Not for my school though, so hooray! Actually didn't have any B-'s, just A-'s.

Wait...so for some schools, a B- is a 2.5?! What happens to a C+? Is it still 2.3? That would be really ******ed. They must get off on deflating everyone's grades.

As long as you're strong otherwise (good LOR, did well in other scienes, extracurriculars), don't sweat it. The worst thing that could happen is that adcoms ask you why you got a B- in physics.

One bad grade is not the end. I am sure adcoms can overlook a B- or, god forbid, a C, if the rest of your academic record is excellent. I got quite a few B's on my prereqs, including a B- in one quarter of physics and a B- in one quarter of Ochem. I still got into 5 schools. Don't worry. If you have a good OVERALL application, it doesn't matter. Good luck.
