thanks...........i never knew that there was a B.S degree for EMS technicians........I just wish I could find some similar colleges in Texas

Do a quick Google search. I found programs at University of Maryland, GWU, University of Alabama, etc. There are quite a few out there. Just weed through the 'on-line' and 'distance' learning degrees .

I believe they want their emt-p and a bs degree in order to be a competitive applicant to quality/upper tier pa programs at the graduate/m.s. level which require prior significant health care experience.
note: not all pa programs do...you will notice I said QUALITY programs......

yes, but this way he gets a bs and his emt-p in 4 years instead of 6.
I went the long route. emt-1a in high school then 4 yr bs(working as an er tech through college) then 1 year medic program. most medic programs now are 2 yr a.s. programs if I'm not mistaken,

I got my B.S. & EMT-P in 3 1/2 years. I took the Medic at night school 2 nights a weeks.

I would have loved to get an EMS degree. Not only do I love EMS, but it sure and the heck is more marketable than my worthless biology degree at least in the ems world.

Marketable?

If you are going to be a paramedic for the rest of your life, then experience is marketable. Getting a B.S. degree would be a waste of money and time.

If you want to work in management, then consider a degree in emergency management. Our supervisor had that degree.

Also, keep in mind that an EMS degree would be pretty useless for getting into graduate school, wheras a biology degree would be much more helpful.

...ever hear of the mems degree( masters in ems)....that's what folks do have bems degrees and want to be management....

Yeah, i think an EMS bachelor's would have been sweet if you were in management or planning on getting into manangement in EMS as a career. If there are two equal applicants for a promotion then the EMS degree gets it hands down where I work (there are a couple who've had them) over a finance degree or biology degree. It's a degree in the field for heavens sake. I think its great. If you are going to get a bachelor might as well make it useful to your career (EMS, duh) and you might as well enjoy it as well.

if you want to go into grad school just take the pre reqs....who cares.
