Do people that have degrees have an advantage over those who only complete their 2 years of pre-pharm for pharmacy school? (3rd yr) Im applying for fall 2009 admission but im only going into p-2 this fall and it seems like alot of people who are applying have already completed their pre-requisites, whereas, I will not have completed them all by the time I apply. I know colleges see courses you will be taking, but wouldn't they prefer those who have already recieved grades for all the required pre-requsiites so they have a better understanding of their gpa?

I think that someone with a bachelor's degree who has like a 3.0-3.2 GPA has an advantage over someone with a 3.2-3.4 GPA who only completed their pre-requisites.

But, someone with a 4.0 GPA and only pre-requisites probably has an advantage over someone with a 3.3 Bachelor's.

That's when PCATS, LORS, experience come into play.

There's been a lot of threads about this. Use the search function and you will find TONS of info on this!

Good luck!

If we meet the estimated average gpa set by universities, do we have a really good chance of getting with everything else (LORs, Pcat, EC's) put aside? Anyone know what the chances of getting into LIU with a 3.4-3.5 gpa is? (Their estimated gpa is 3.4)

it's a good idea to have BS degree just in case they will replace pharmacists with robots

If your gpa / pcat score is the average or above at the school you are applying to, you should be able to get a interview. Now, whether or not you get accepted will depend on your interview and how the school interprets your other stats. So while the application is a two step process, they really are looking at your stats as a whole.

To the Op's original question: depends on the school. Some require a BS, others give you alot of points, whereas others will give you so few points that its not important.

Ok, I understand that this comment was sarcastic (at least, I think so...) but wouldn't a PharmD. act as a BS, since it's a "higher" degree. SO if I were to leave pharmacy for whatever reason, a PharmD is still recognized/reputable, right?

Not sure if this was meant to be sarcastic or not, but I hope you know that pharmacists cannot be replaced by robots.

To answer the OP, it depends on the school as to whether or not they prefer applicants with a bachelor's degree. I think it is a good idea to get one so that you have something to fall back on.

Of course pharmacists cannot be replaced by robots. Cyborgs though, is another story.
