I haven't found a thread, yet,on perfusion technology in relation to medical school admission.

I am almost done with Chem I during this summer and will start my first undergrad. year in the upcoming fall. I have over 100 in the class so far.

My plan is this: Go to CC for 2 years taking pre-med reqs after which I will transfer into a bachelor's perfusion technology program at Rush university. Total time spent taking courses at cc and Rush will be about 4 years.During the period I would be volunteering about 100 hours a year at Rush Medical Center. After all this I will have met all the pre-med reqs, have taken intensive upper division science courses at Rush, and will have plenty of clinical experience alongside surgeons. I will then try to apply to Rush's Medical College.

What do you think of this plan? Any thoughts, errors you see, etc.?

Much Appreciated. I am new here.

undergraduate major doesn't matter
sounds like you are just targeting minimum requirements, not trying to stand out.
Looks like you are new to premed world and sdn, this is DO forum, you should post it on MD

I would think having a bachelor's in perfusion technology would help me stand out as it's rare.

Nah. Doesn't matter what major just if you did well in it and can handle medschool curriculum. Also it's great to shoot for a school but cast a wide net in terms of applying to schools. Alas you're far from that point just focus on fall semester courses. Do well in them. If you do well and can handle more start throwing volunteering in spring semester (both clinical and non-clinical). Do that at your CC. Then transfer and repeat the process. First semester at rush just do well in your classes (seems to be huge learning curves from CC to universities. At least in my case and a lot of other's). Second semester at rush start looking for a research position. Also, join your premed club and try to be active. Hopefully you can snag a leadership role.

TL;DR take it one step at a time

again... major doesn't matter squat. Having a major in an allied health care field is no different for med school adcoms then having a major in video game studies (made up major)
In fact, adcoms may question on why you chose an allied health major if premed. be prepared to answer that. typically, folks like nurses, emts who have worked the field for a few years but then decide they want to do more and advance, do get the pass, so to speak, with adcoms. of course, nobody may even care to ask in the first place so there's that too.
also, you'd have to make space to fit your perfusion tech courses alongside premed courses. Any perf tech classes may not be seen as upper level sci so you'd have to make even more space if you plan to take upperl level sci classes from the major disciplines of science.

"rare" majors won't help. at my uni, we have the program where you can make up your own degree (ex. video game studies lol) or whatever. im sure my uni isnt unique and im sure many premed apps have "rare" majors. what does impress adcoms is your demonstrated passion for your major as displayed through research (ie. expedition in egypt finding king tuts treasure - archaelogy major)
