What is your back-up plan if you don't match into derm?

Last year I think we figured the number to be around 10.

according to last year's charting outcomes, 4 interviews puts you at >50% chance of matching (more likely to match than not). 10 interviews puts you around 90%.

That's the number I was aiming for myself. Fell short but was still able to match!

I also fell short of that number as well. 4 Interviews. Fewer than you. 😛

Matched at my #1 program. Had tried to get the advanced position over one of the categorical. But hey, still same program in the end and this way I have already worked in the system I will be doing Derm in over the next 3 years. 🙂

I think it depends from person to person. I ended up matching pretty high on my rank list (#2) and like N-Surge, I also ended up fairly close to my advanced program (although not exactly in the same system) so it's nice to avoid a significant cross-country move (as some of my fellow prelim interns need to start planning and budgeting for)

12 interviews, matched at #7, a program where I had rotated and loved -- so that's a wonderful and fortunate thing. I was not surprised on Match Day, but it was fun to speculate for a few days. What was surprising was my number of interviews and the quality of these programs. I only considered one program as "backup." I interviewed at places I had only dreamed of, so my interview season was amazing, as I met famous faculty and got to know their programs. I just felt very grateful.
