one of my friends recently went to a grocery store and accidentally forgot to pay for an item he left in his shopping cart. the item was about $100 which was an external hard drive. he was on the phone talking and didnt realize it until security caught him as he was exiting the store. well i was with him at the time of course. he said sorry and offered to go pay for it. the security was being an --- and didnt believe the story and accused him of shoplifting. so they took him to some room and ended up calling his parents to come out and giving him a summons for theft and posession of stolen property.......long story short. he went to court pleaded not guilty, the officer was not there, and that was the end of that.

he is all ready in pharmacy school. will this effect him in anyway in the future as in will this be on his record even though he pleaded not guilty and the judge just told him to go home. well he is a P1 as well as i am. we have our intern licenses and everything all ready. do we have anymore background checks while in pharm school? will it effect his ability to get a job?

thanks for your time

if he wasnt charged with anything, then his record doesnt have a blemish. whats the problem again?

No conviction, no worries..

Not true.. Some states inquire if you have been "charged" not necessarily "convicted." One of my tech was suspended from the state board for 2 weeks for indicating he was never "charged"... he was charged but he thought it was ok since he wasn't convicted.

The whole background check looks at the OIG list. http://www.oig.hhs.gov/

And healthcare institution participating as a CMS - medicare provider can not employ an individual on the OIG list.

Get on the OIG list and you're screwed.

I would think that if he had to "plead" then he was charged.
And the record of being "charged" can be etched. I didn't think so until the episode with my technician. The State Board of Pharmacy evidently does a background check that identified my tech with a previous charge. Even though there was no conviction.

Yeah, but I assumed the poster lives in a state that isn't lame and borderline unconstitutional...

yeah he pleaded not guilty but the officer was not there. i think he still had to pay a court fee or something. i guess the charged part still stands. he received a summons ticket just like a traffic ticket violation.

do they do pharmacy background checks every year you are in the program?
