Hello Everyone!

I just had a question regarding background checks for osteopathic medical schools. I don't have a criminal record or anything like that, but do the admissions committees look into your tax returns and whatnot to check the amount of hours you have worked? The reason I ask is because I worked both at my real job and at my aunt's restaurant and at my aunt's restaurant I was just paid cash (which I know is wrong, but I'm sure I'm not the only one). If anyone would be kind enough to assist me I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

I'm sure its not that big a deal. Plenty of people work for cash. I highly doubt they look into any form of employment unless you wrote columbian shipping director or something. They care about felonies, misdemeanors and sex-offenders.

The background check is simply a check of criminal system records. Stop worrying.

i had this same question too...i have an accounting degree so worked as an accountant for my uncle for a year and a half but he paid me cash as well. I also worked in construction and he paid me cash so is there a chance they will look into this and think that i might be lying to them about the employment and/or dishonest by not paying my taxes? I would've paid them but they didn't want to pay taxes on me or have to pay for insurance so thats the reason.

They will check your financial history for financial aid only.

This is totally not applicable to me, but what if you're like filthy rich and don't need financial aid? Is your financial history still checked?

^This. And that is just a general check. To be quite honest I think you guys overestimate the background checking system. I have worked for a few organization that have used various background checking agencies and unless you have a criminal record, you come up clean. Key word, criminal.

No, and the people who check it are the feds through FAFSA, the school only knows indirectly.

If you're paying entirely out of pocket though, I'm pretty sure you can decline submitting a FAFSA, so in that case, nobody would ever know.

Haha if only we were filthy rich. Life would be so much easier 😛

Baccas,

Whats institutional aid...just financial aid? So are you saying that they could find out and show concerns about anything?
