Hey guys.
Do dental schools check on students backgrounds?? I unfortunately have 2 DUI's on my record and I want to be better than that and dentistry is in my most interest.
I am a college graduate at University of Maryland Baltimore County and taking continuing education courses to raise my GPA.

Please tell me straight up if I am in a difficult situation. Thanks guys

Once accepted, a background check will be preformed. DUI's (especially multiple) probably do put you in a tough situation. But you're not completely out of the game. When applying, be completely honest and hide nothing about them. It might not be pretty, but be ready to explain...especially the lessons you've learned and how you have changed.

You are definitely in a difficult situation - especially with multiple DUIs. Since a background check will be performed as said above, you must be completely honest in your application to stand a chance. It's up to you whether or not to proceed on this path - but you'll be up against a lot of applicants at every school who have no DUIs on their record. I would think about things from the perspective of an adcom - if you were an adcom and saw an applicant with multiple DUIs, what in their application would still convince you to accept them in light of that?
If you can answer that question, I think that's a great step in the right direction to helping make your application as strong as possible.

i believe in some states DUI is considered as a felony if someone get caught 2nd time

Make sure those records are dated: NOt recently... You have to give a good explanation on that....Good luck

i know that even one dui is a huge obstacle, but i don't know about 2... but who knows? I don't know the details of your life so i won't judge

Be honest- don't try to hide them for them just to be discovered down the road. Everyone makes mistakes (or two), and all you can do is explain how you've grown from the experience; any negative experience can be accompanied by a positive learning opportunity. I've had friends who've had trouble with the law and have continued on to law school, which may be comparing apples and oranges, but might be reassuring nonetheless. Best of luck.

Oh wow buddy, you are in a tough spot. If you did it once then that would have been easier to explain, but since you have done it twice that may be very problematic. Most schools do a background check after your acceptance. Also, it would be wise not to wise anything if the topic is brought up since all it takes is a few clicks for them to discover your history.

Best of luck!

Well, I think everyone makes mistakes.... But you have to ask yourself (as an admissions officer), "Are these DUIs only representative of when this applicant got caught?" ... If he or she was caught twice, he or she probably has done it may more times before and since.

It's going to be tough, but not impossible to get accepted.

does anyone have a success story that can relate to me they are willing to share??

My friend with 2 DUIs, a 3.8 and 21AA has not been accepted, second time applying this cycle.
