Maybe there's a post like this out there already, but I haven't been able to locate it, sorry. Redirect me if you wish.

My heart is set on one school, and one school only. For the past year I've had it in mind to make a list of "backup schools" but for some reason, can't generate any feelings at all toward any other school.

How did you pick your back up schools? I don't care about cost, I just care that I don't have to endure another winter again with -30 degree days.

And the reason for this post,
Would you recommend any schools, and tell why you like that school? Or discuss why you chose your own schools to apply to?
Thanks guys 🙂

the grass is always greener lol. All my life Ive either lived in southern California or on a tropical island. I absolutely hate the weather. Id love to have a change in season. Id love to have it snow. Sunshine 300+ days a year is REALLY freakin boring.

sorry but from a state which has a lot of the "change of seasons"

...i would really rather have the sunshine and warmth

i guess the other side is really greener

oh and there really aren't any backup schools anymore, there are a few with slightly lower stats, which you can see on predents, but basically they're all getting tougher to be accepted to

By backup schools, I meant schools to apply to besides my first choice (which I won't name).

I guess I should say other schools that are decent. 🙂

so your number one school is a big secret?:meanie:

how are we suppose to help you pick other schools if we don't know your standards, stats, etc.

If your dream school is your state school, then you might consider adding some private schools to the mix. Places like Tufts and NYU can be a little easier to get in to since they have such high tuition costs. But it's important to note that they are hardly safety schools - there aren't really any safety schools. But a couple private schools might be a little easier to gain admission to than a lot of state schools or the Ivys.

I wouldnt' count on getting into any one particular school. There is too much luck involved in the admissions process that even if you have the numbers and a personality, there will always be someone out there who disagrees with something you say.

Go on predents, and then depending on your critera for "backup schools", rank them:
- Most applicants?
- % Out of State Applicants?
- Number of Seats?
- Lowest GPA?
- Lowest DAT?
- Highest Cost?

I agree with the other posters, there really aren't any safetly schools. NYU, USC, and other so called "back-up" schools get a lot of applicants, and therefore, you have to really stand out.

I always recommend USC and NYU. There is absolutely nothing wrong with those schools!!! Don't flame me.

Why those schools? For both, it's just so frig'n expensive. For USC, it's in a not so great place and many do not like PBL. Both have very large class sizes. These reasons do not make these schools a #1 pick for most applicants. Sometimes NYU doesn't even interview you, they just accept you.

No such thing as a safety school, but if there was, it would be USC and NYU.

I also advise to add the following private schools: Nova, Tufts, Temple and ASDOH. One thing about ASDOH, they interview everyone and their mother so don't get too jazzed when you get an invite. It's not like UoP or UCLA where early interview = accept.

Well, how are we going to pick "back-up schools for you" if we don't know what your top choice is? Let's say your top choice is UCLA, I might recommend USC. Or if was USC, I might recommend Indiana, which is also PBL. If you're #1 was Penn, I might recommend Temple. And so on and so forth.

So your only criteria is that it's in warm weather? Well, if warm weather is your only criteria, here's 10 schools you could add to your dream school (you should apply to at least 10 schools total to be safe):
- USC
- UoP
- Loma Linda
- Western U.
- Midwestern
- ASDOH
- UNLV
- Nova
- Virginia Commonwealth
- Tennessee

I wouldn't exactly say that the SF Bay Area is warm...in fact, far from it. 😀

Awesome school tho!

Haha...this is hilarious because I feel the same way...I grew up in California, so my biggest reason against going to UCLA is that I hate sunshine. I went to undergrad in Boston and loved having seasons. All of my friends think I'm insane, of course... That said...UCLA is the right school for me for many other reasons, so I am going to go there and put up with the weather and skimpily-clad people
