hey,
i just submitted my amcas app yesterday, which i know is uber uber late. my grades are pretty good and i just took the mcat in august. i called today to ask about a transcript at from a school where all i took was english and i found out i have perhaps a fatal error in my application. when i filled in my transcript grades i put in number.. ex: 3.7 for an A- because that seemed more precise to me since not all schools have the same numerical values for those type of grades. The lady on the phone told me that it is absolutely imperative that you put everything exactly as it is on your transcript or else your application will be returned and you have to get back in line for verification. I read the directions obviously but...i guess my reasoning was all wrong. Has anyone else had similar problems and am I totally f*cked? i just need hope right now.

continuing on here...or is my app going to be held anyway because i don't have my mcat scores yet? maybe the mistake doesn't really affect anyting??

did the exact same thign as you. you get "X's" next to everythign you enter meaning that you had something corrected. not a big deal. TRUST ME

In the AMCAS instructions, it tells you that you have to resubmit your application if they find more than X errors. So, if AMCAS considers your errors to be fatal, then they'll send it back to you and ask you to correct them and resubmit. It is my belief that schools do not know how many times you've been asked to resubmit, but someone else may be able to verify that for me. See pg 13 of the AMCAS instructions PDF for further info regarding "Academic Change Requests".

if a transcript lists both letter (e.g., A+) and numerical grades (e.g., 90%), then which one should i choose to enter? it does not list 4.0 for example per course...

You submitted yesterday; not a big deal if you resubmit tommorrow.
Call them and describe the error. Presumably, they can "desubmit" your application over the phone so you can make the necessary changes.
I would definately follow through. A guaranteed two-day loss is a lot better than a chance at a 4+ week loss.

AMCAS gives an option to take your application back within 10 days of submission if you found an error. You have to call them

how many of those X's did you have? did you do it on your whole app or just once. unfortunately, i did it everywhere. at least i was consistent...i guess

where does it say that we can do that?? when i call i want to have some place in the directions or something where i can quote. that would be great! do they charge you for doing that?

I entered everything exactly as it appeared on my transcript (or so I thought) and had an X next to every single course listed. Unless you make a really really big error they aren't going to send it back to you. They will figure out that 3.7 means A- and fix it.

if you don't mind me asking...what kind of mistake did you make on every line? numbers instead of letters or something simpler?

everything except my AP courses and courses i haven't taken yet. aka MAD COURSES.

Famous is right. Most of my lines had X's next to them and they didn't send it back to me (I misclassified myself as a sophomore mid-year when I shouldn't have so it waterfalled everything).

what are MAD courses?...it seems like just misclassifying yourself is not as severe and error as switching all the letters for numbers....that makes me very worried

They changed the course numbers on every one of my courses and usually shortened the course name. For instance: CH0033 Equilibrium Rate and Structure became Chem 33 Equilib, Rate, Structr and Lab. They also added a blank transfer credit because the 7 classes I took abroad netted me 8 classes worth of credit (and it says so on my transcript).

does anyone know any other reasons that the app could get returned?...for future reference i guess. and robizzle...you literally did the same thing with the numbers instead of letters??? did your actual transcript put both?
