Just wondering if I could get people's thoughts on my situation....

An extremely bad semester... a few weeks into the semester I fell into a sort of deep depression due to a few personal events and have not been able to get out of it since. As a results, classes that I had strong A's in have fell to the low/mid B range. Also, I did not pass my English class (my paper did not pass review and that made up the whole grade) and will have to retake that class and physics II (withdrew from that class.) Let's just say this is a very messy situation.

It's getting worse and worse, but all I can do is look froward. I know this is definitely going to affect my future, but I don't know how much. What are your takes? Any kind of thought would be most helpful.

If you have been getting professional help for your depression, perhaps you could get a medical withdrawal from English with the written support of your doctor or psychologist.

I think a fair number of pre-meds have gone through a phase of depression. Undergrad can be intense, lots of new responsibilities, people can't always cope. Unless you had a particularly compelling situation like a death in the immediate family, nobody will care about your crisis.

"nobody will care about your crisis."

I think that was a pretty insensitive comment. I think OP made it clear that he/she fell into depression for personal reasons, not just the pressure of undergrad. That being said, I do think that they'll take into account that you were depressed and I don't think that you've dug yourself into a hole that you can't get out of. I would recommend getting professional help and getting a doctor's affidavit saying that you were ill and had to withdraw for medical reasons. I've heard of students getting these and having their bad grades wiped from their record.

Best of luck to you and I hope that things start going better for you soon.

While it is true you can always pick yourself up and still be successful at a medical career, this is the sort of thing an admissions committee would fear (I think). If I was in there shoes, I would view someone who sufferred from extreme depression as an undergrad as not being emotionally stable enough to cope with 4 years of emotionally and intellectually demanding work. Of course people change, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think this put you at a slight disadvantage...
