Has anyone else had a bad experience with whoever answers the telephone at the UCI admissions office? On numerous occasions, I found the respondent to be very rude and unhelpful! When the admissions office lost one of my letters of rec, she refused to tell me which was missing! I know that these people get tons of phone calls from stressed out pre-meds but the I think rudeness is unncessary. 👎

Hey, I started a thread on this same topic at the begining of the app cycle; just goes to show that many people have problems with them.

Yup. Called them to ask about my hold status and got an earful.

They weren't the nicest people to me, either. I called back in October after I was put on hold to see if they could use an updated transcript. The lady seemed really annoyed with me.

I don't know about whoever is on the other end of the phone, but whoever takes care of email communication is very nice. They really bent over backward to help me with my schedualing conflicts.

Yup. It's the admin assistant. It doesn't seem like she likes her job. But, I found the director of admin to be very nice. You just need to pass through the assistant to get to her.

I'm sorry so many of you had had bad experiences with UCI. Gayle and Dr. Peterson are the nicest people. Perhaps you may want to contact them if you're having trouble obtaining the information you need.

Yes, ask for Gayle, she's great!!

I guess it's easy to forget that even though we're all being evaluated for placement into these programs based on what THEY want in students, we're also supposed to be evaluating all of THEM based on what WE want in a school.

Personally, I just came out of a grad program with a faculty that didn't respect the students, and never responded to their concerns or their suggestions in an appropriate way. I don't intend to go to another school that seems more concerned with their own internal administrative policies than common decency and politeness. Schools that disrespect applicants that way right from the start are big losers in my book, and they have quite a bit of work to do before I see them in a favorable light again.

If rudeness and disrespect are allowed to happen to such a great degree at the admissions gateway, how can the rest of the school be much different?

Very disappointing. 🙁

I agree, they are definitely the ones to go to.

Yeah..I had the same problem. They lostsome of my LORs then they said my app was complete, then they said they were missing some pages from application.........Yeah...I was FINALLLYYY complete a few months later (mid NOvemeber) when I was actually complete way before that!Frustrating

That is so funny, they lost my letters of REc TOO!! UCI has really given me a bad impression of them from the people working there and I'm definately going to take that into consideration when deciding. Gayle and Dr. Peterson both have had complaints on the people who have been working there and if they dont care enough to do something about it then I dont know if thats the school I want to go to.

I was gonna start this thread but found that it already existed!

Yea, I called UCI and got this RUDE RUDE lady! I got to talk to another woman who helped me. That was this morning. This afternoon I get a call from Gayle and she told me sorry and asked me to email her what happened. She said this lady has been rude to many others!

definitely go to gayle. during the beginning of the cycle, i had a question about the secondary and we kept missing eachother on the phone. despite being extremely busy, she made sure that all my questions were answered. she is so nice and will do whatever is possible to help you out.
