This semester has been a complete disaster for me. I'm going to get a C+ in Organic Chemistry and most likely Calculus. My gpa went for a 3.75 the first semester of my freshman year, and now its down to a 3.34. My grades this semester were all borderline C+/B or B+/A. How will this downward slope of grades affect my medical school applications (Are C+'s frowned upon)? Also, should retake Organic Chemistry and Calculus? I know next semester I can do better. Any words of advice... 🙁

Just do better next term, and i would try and retake calc and orgo and do a little better, but then again dont be too overwhelemed. Also its just fall term sophmore year, you still have the rest of sophmore year and junior year (tho MCATS junior year) to get good grades. One bad semester isnt going to put you on the sidelines! 🙂

Good Luck

don't worry about it too much. i had a really bad sophomore fall term too (two Cs if it makes you feel better and i never retook either class), but since that term, my grades have consistently gone up. med schools might ask about it during interviews, but when i've been asked about it, i just admit that i had a bad term, but that i've learned from it. and i've had 9 interviews and one acceptance so far. good luck!

i know that getting C's in any science class seems horrible but at least its not failing...i failed my whole first semester as a freshman. my grades have gone up thank goodness but my gpa is still really low. just always remember u can work harder each semester and pull it up...thats what keeps me going. hope that helps a little 🙂

My freshman 2nd semester looks a lot like your semester. I went from 4.0 to a 3.4 something, and I was seriously debating whether to retake ochem because I got a B-. I decided not to take it again because I was told that the final grade will be an average of the 2 grades. If you do decide to retake it, I'd suggest to take a light load along side with it. I still got many interviews and an acceptance regardless of my bad semester. Don't lose hope! :luck:

Personally I would say you should really reconsider doing premed. Have you looked into doing a DO?

Just kidding! Relax!! You just need a 3.5-you know that. So you got you spring sophomore semester and junior year to bring it up!

I had a really tough fall semester sophomore year...GPA dropped like a full point. Find out what went wrong and try and fix it next semester. Just don't let it become a trend. For the record...I got in, even with a ****ty semester. Don't let it get the best of you.

Don't retake calculus. It's worthless.

They call it the sophomore slump.

Just pick it up next semester.

Good luck.

"Sophomore slump" What's that? 😉 My GPA actually went up my sophomore year.
