Bad interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
often times, even though the interview felt bad it actually wasn't bad. i think there's nothing you can really do besides forget about it which is easier said than done. i was tempted to call and complain about one, but i didn't want to whine about it at the risk of making myself look worse.

if it was stressful and harsh, don't do anything about it, but if it was unreasonable or inappropriate in some way and you think its worth it, just write an email or call the dean/ head admissions officer. but what are the chances of getting another interview to replace this one? its probably too late.

there was another thread about this. I think we concluded that how well the interview went had littel correlation with whether or not we got accepted! We were told by adcomm members at GTown that people who request a second interview nearly always did worse on the second one. They also noted that oftentimes what the interviewee THOUGHT was a poor interview was actually a good one! If the only way your nerves will be calmed is to talk to the dean then you definitely should. Otherwise I'd just wait and see what happens. There are too many things to worry about as it is!

I'm pretty sure that I would do a 100% better the next time, with better preparation. I did great on the other 5 interviews, it was just that one that I bombed. +pity+

I'm curious what did you do that you think you bombed it. Was it that you were overly nervous, your statements were too short, or you just said something really bad.

I think if you were overly nervous, the interviewers understand the stress of the situation and won't hold it against you. Again, I also believe that you can have a horrible interview and get accepted, or have a great interview and get rejected.

In that case, where does this school rank compared to the other five schools you interviewed at? If it ranks high, then you should probably try to reschedule.

It's my top school. I just sent a letter of intent this morning...we will see how that goes.😱

dont think its too conventional to ask for another interview just cause you did bad.....more along the lines of the interviewer being inappropriate...

Sounds like she was messing with your head, but that you reacted well. I wouldn't worry about it.

I had a bad interview at my top choice too; I know how it feels afterwards, couldn't get myself over it. Just kept thinking over and over about how I should have answered those tough ethical questions and that I should've been better prepared. In retrospect, now I don't feel I could've done any better considering the questions he was asking me. I told my premed advisor about it, and she said intervieweres sometimes tend to ask toughest questions to their best applicants, or that they just want to spark off conversation that interests them. She also said that since interviews are so subjective they don't factor in as much as other aspects of your app. in their final decision. If you are a strong well-round applicant, interviews won't make or break your chances. Now, I am still waiting to hear..but I feel like there isn't much I can do. Asking for a reinterview is probably a bad idea as suggested by many to me. So I am just waiting. Hope things work out for you.
