Impossible. SATs are the biggest criteria for medical school. I mean, it's worth 2400 points. 2400! MCAT is only worth 45 so clearly SAT is more important. And Gpa, lol the most it goes to is 4.0. LOL, 4 points, please. I think now you see when the SAT is the most important part of medical school admissions.

LOL. 🙂

Seriously though, I've heard there's somewhat of a correlation between SAT scores and MCAT scores, but that might have more to do with people's test-taking abilities rather than with aptitude, if it's true to begin with. From the AMCAS packages I downloaded (at the site), the application doesn't ask for SAT scores. Pretty much from the time you enter college, stats-wise, you're working from a clean slate. Get the highest GPA possible, knock out the pre-reqs, and make the MCAT bend over and take your 45. Oh, and don't spend all your time in your room - have some extracurrics. That's how to get into med school. Your SAT scores won't keep you out.

There were a couple of threads on this a while ago.

What is the button next to "new posts" and "quick links" on the blue bar above? 😉

WashU asks for your SAT, high school gpa, and high school class rank.

Sweet 😎

FYI- There was only one school that I applied to that requested my SAT score- Jefferson I think-

I did poorly on the SAT and solid on the MCAT- so it can be overcome- I have been accepted at UC and have been waitlisted at 4 other schools

Good Luck! Snumie

I SAT on the ACT, the MCAT was FLAT.

True they ask it, but a few people have mentioned that they only want it for statistical purposes.

there are many encouraging stories in the MCAT vs. SAT threads. Don't worry about correlations.

1190 SAT, ****ty
31 MCAT, decent

Yeah, Jefferson asks, but you don't have to put it. I didn't put mine (because I seriously don't remember it; it was a pretty good score, but not high enough for me to remember 😛), and I was accepted.

Stuff happens. Study your butt off for the MCAT and you can get to med school fine. It can be hard to learn test-taking skills, but it's not impossible! Good luck :luck:

1190 SAT
36 MCAT

Also, I had a 2.2 HS GPA. I started at a Community College, transferred to a pretty irrelevant state school, and ended up getting into med schools I won't mention anymore because I get too much **** about it from SDNers 😉

Yay, I had a 1380..maybe there is some hope for me yet 😀

oh geez, no one asked me for my sat score. that was a long time ago! but i don't see a correlation

sat 1400
mcat 28

then again i wasn't dealing with a nice steady case of the vomits when i took my sat. seriously, there is nothing worse than having the stomach flu when you're taking the mcats, they don't let you get up... *shudder* thank goodness there won't be any repeating that!!!!!!!!!!!

1490 SAT
32 ACT
30 MCAT (without prep)
retake MCAT with prep, we'll see... but I like my chances
oh and I'd like to add that I'm the biggest underachiever out there, so congrats to all that were blessed with a strong work ethic over IQ, those are the ones rewarded when it comes to this process.

1360 SAT
but
33+ MCAT

In HS, I was a pretty bad student... I didn't give ANY effort. Too bad I didn't care about anything in HS. *shrug*

1470 SAT
31O MCAT

Is that considered a downward trend ? 😉

I hear ya, I had a really bad inner ear infection during MCAT week, to the point a friend had to walk me to the testing center because I couldn't keep my balance while walking. I kept swaying side to side during the test LOL and messed up verbal something awful, but managed to pull through on the other sections thankfully.

without having to divulge scores, I scored in the exact percentile for the SAT that I did for the MCAT; and I'm hoping the correlation holds for Step 1
