Hey everyone. I was just looking for peoples opinions here. I had by far my worst semester of my undergrad career. I barely got a 3.0 and my cum. dropped from to a 3.64. I received a C in an upper level bio class. I was wondering how badly I may have hurt myself. Also is the C that big of a deal because I got it so late in my undergrad (3rd year). I will be taking the mcat in april and am trying to study for it now. Any insite would be appreciated. Have a happy holiday.

I think this is gonna be my worst semester also. Mostly cause I took a crappy bio class, and a bunch of upper level lit classes that only give A's out to the grad students. Oh well, I'm hoping it won't matter, I'm not sending the grades in till I have to.

Other people's opinions may differ, but I say don't sweat it, doc-H.

People have gotten into Allopathic U.S. medical schools with a lot less than a 3.64. One "B" semester won't kill your chances. 😉

Hang in there!

Where does everyone get the idea that a B average is bad? 🙄

OK it probably isn't good to have a 3.00 for your entire undergrad career but one 3.00 semester wont kill you.

As for a C don't worry about it. If it was an upper level class and you had other diificult classes then it can be overlooked. If you make getting C's a regular thing it could turn out to be a problem.

hey guys...

honestly, a "C" is definitely the end of the world......if anything it should just make you work even harder...and be your motivational drive.

I had a C+ in Bio 1a...a staple pre-med class and i've had one acceptance so far (thank god 🙂 )......my feeling is that it comes down to grade trends and the types of classes you're taking. Ultimately, an AdCom will consider the whole application and not just one facet of it (such as the GPA)......

If you feel that your GPA is low, then try to compensate for it by cranking the involvement you have with EC's, do your best to crack the MCAT and try your hardest to get awesome recs.

just some advice...hope it helps 🙂 GOOD LUCK!!!

I had a bad first semester in college🙁 my GPA is horrible. Oh well, I've got plenty of time to fix it I guess.

My two C's in college science classes=sitting on two acceptances and interview at UCSF and Georgetown next month...you're fine, don't lose sleep over it.

hey doc-h,

i did worse than you did 2nd semester of my junior year: one D and a C (i had a 3.7-3.8ish for 5 semesters before that) from doing too many things in too little time. as a current applicant now, i have a bunch of interviews. however, i've been waitlisted at all the schools i've heard from (7) and 1 rejection so far. so people r gonna ask u about bad semester while others won't. trying to explain it will be difficult. at my einstein interview, for example, the interviewer said i had "excellent" interview skills. assuming that it was somewhat true, i think the messed up semester is holding me back at all of the other schools. if u've had a consistenly good record before, i don't think u'll have any problems w/ obtaining interviews. the hard part will be trying to secure an acceptance letter from wary adcoms who want to make sure u do well the following semester. u still have another semester. i wouldn't fret over it cuz i think u still have a lotta time. i still haven't heard from einstein, slu, and georgetown. if i do get in this january, it'll be quite a personal success story for me. i'll let u guys know....

This semester was horrible for me....but the grades weren't the worst part. If I knew I was going to get grades like that, I would have went out more than twice this whole semester!
