So I'm an idiot and have a job where my employer only pays part of my malpractice tail unless I work there for 4 years. I'm exploring options due to various job market forces in my city and am trying to figure out how much I'd have to pay if worst case scenario I get stuck paying for my tail. For reference, insurance runs about $5k/year in my state.

I've also been reading about nose options. Has anybody done this and how much did that cost?

I think mine was about equal to the most expensive year of coverage.

Thanks! I've been coming across nightmare numbers for tails in other specialties, but their insurance is much more than ours anyway. I'm hoping for maybe $5k as the total (maybe even less).

Sometimes you can get tail coverage included in your next malpractice coverage and as you're signing on as a new client somewhere, that tends to get you more favorable rates.

No go in my situation as the thing I'm likely moving to is self insured. Already asked. 🙁 I guess I shouldn't be too grumpy about paying part of my tail as my current job doesn't make me repay my signing bonus regardless of when I quit.
