This may sound ridiculous, but I'm asking anyway..

Opinions on including combat sports and competiting in weightlifting competitions as an EC?

I've been training Muay Thai for a few years now and have competed twice on the amateur level. My record is 2-0 (1 by knockout, 1 by decision).
I've also won a few powerlifting competitions, recently losing the state total record and overall federation record for my age/weight within the past year.

i really don't see how these would fit into becoming a better dentist and I don't want to come off as violent or whatever to admissions.

Just thought I'd ask
🙂

Haha. Your EC's don't have to be dental related. If you put those on your app it would make you stand out more. Don't worry about coming off as violent. As long as you have a clean CBC you will be fine.

Tell them they won't have to find patients for you because you'll be knocking teeth out and fixing em afterward🙂

Dedicated. As @Advance said, that's what makes you unique. Be yourself and I'm sure you'll be fine.

I'd accept you. Sounds awesome.

I boxed for in the amateurs for 6 years and all of my interviewers seemed to like it a lot. The only issue was one interviewer asked if I ever damaged my hands which I truthfully answered with a no. It definitely shows dedication as combat sports are tough and require lots of training.

barbaric . . . I would accept you . . . You'll be a great surgeon .. . for torturing . . .. geez

I would honestly think barbaric at first, but during the interview you just have to show them that it just means that you are committed.

I think those are perfectly acceptable extra-curriculars...it's not like you listed "former super secret black-OP counter-terrorism FBI interrogator scarymandude".
