Anyone have any idea why Wash U affiliated hospital Barnes only matched about half their spots before the scramble? Is there something about this program I don't know? I thought SLU's program was the worst in MO, but maybe it is actually Barnes?

Thanks!

i interviewed at washu. i loved the place. no call for the first 6 months. it has a simulation dummy. the only reason i didn't rank it too high (#5) was because it was in st. louis. hellhole as far as i'm concerned. i agree, slu was pretty bad. i just think washu did the common mistake of being too arrogant, not ranking enough people. but i don't know for sure.

So what's the deal with SLU? Just wondering why you guys think it sucks?? Appreciate any info..

I never said SLU "sucks". I had just heard from residents and read on scutwork.com that the anesthesiology program was malignant and had problems filling. I thought Barnes' affiliation with Wash U would make it more desirable than other MO programs, but Barnes only filled half its spots.

I have not been to Barnes, but at least in the undergrad forums for med schools, SLU is bashed on there to, esp for location.

Barnes Hosp was very cocky about offering interviews. I know many qualified people they denied interviews to. They thought that by being affiliated with Wash U they will get every1 whos AOA with great board scores. Ya Rite !

They got what they had coming to them,,half empty and unmatched program..Im sure next year during the interviews they will come up with a spiel of how and why they didnt match

Plus who the heck wants to live in St. Louis anyways!

I would have loved to go to Barnes, world class research, excellent facility, friendly residents, good attendings, but I did not get a welcome vibe there. I wasn't sure if they would like to have me there at all. I thought it was because I was an IMG, but I guess others got the same feeling too.

I do feel however, it is an excellent academic program. Even Dr Ron Miller said so during my interview at UCSF.
