would the flash cards suffice or is the book more preferred?

Flash cards are good for review however you definitely need to read the book thoroughly for the details. I also suggest reading the
Feralis Notes (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/complete-bio-notes-cliff-kbb-barrons-etc.990305/) to cover everything that the book didn't go over and mix in some youtube videos for understanding the physiology part.

I also supplemented Cliffs with some chapters of Campbell's Biology.

Agreed, I'd supplement the flash cards with some book whether it be Cliff's, Baron's, or Campbell's.
