Anyone else scheduled their interview for Barry yet?

I haven't seen any posts in the interview invites thread, I feel like I'm the only one! 😳

I have been invited for an interview but I haven't scheduled it yet because I'm scheduling my other offers first.

Got an interview as well but I am going to wait and see how my Scholl interview turns out. If I get in there thats where I am going!

Interviewed today.

9am start time.

Fin aid presentation.

Tour of the campus with admissions coordinator Amy Rodriguez (awesome!).

- updated anatomy labs are very nice, great ventilation, new floors, new walls, etc. A camera system is going to be installed that videos the professors table with TV's at each student table so you don't have to crowd around while he does a dissection or points out a structure. Will be ready by August 2010.

- Classrooms were revamped, new chairs and desks.

The dean Dr Nelson took us on a tour of one of the teaching hospitals, North Shore. Very cool place, especially if you prefer a smaller community hospital to the typical huge metro hospital.

- Barry students are the only group that rotates at this hospital. No Nova, no UM, no nothing. VERY nice, lots of opportunities to be involved with cases where you actually do things as opposed to just standing around and watching, as a lot of 3rd years are stuck doing. 👍

Back to campus for lunch with a 2nd year student. Met a few other first years. Everyone seemed pretty relaxed and laid back.

Interviews were held individually with 2-3 faculty members and lasted about 30 minutes.
---

All in all I felt like I found out what I needed to know. Now the wait for an answer begins. :scared:😀

Congrats you're in already.

Congrats you're in already.

Just for what it's worth:

Barry received appx 550 applications last cycle, interviewed appx 220 and matriculated a class of 67.

Even if they accepted 120 with half ultimately going elsewhere, that's still sounds like a pretty far cry from the "apply and you are in" sentiment I have heard about these parts.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Those numbers really don't prove against the "apply and you are in" sentiment.

Here a hypothetical portrayal.

Out of the 550 aps, they probably extended interview invites to almost all of them (I received an automated mass email from the school inviting me for an interview the day after I submitted my app). Half of the people actually accepted the interview invites (220), the other half had already gotten into other schools which they had interviewed earlier at (as earlier posters in this thread are doing). Acceptances were given to all 220, but only 67 actually came.

You need to know the 'numbers' between the numbers to get an accurate picture.

Yeah, I understand where you are coming from.

I wonder how hard it is to get those type of statistics? It would be interesting to see a spreadsheet comparing all of the schools.

there is no reason for a school to provide those numbers. so keep dreaming and we can all keep speculating. It doesnt matter if it is the best school or the worst school, they will never show the breakdown, nor should they.

#1 I didn't say there was a reason for schools to provide these numbers.

#2 I didn't mention dreaming about anything, or even imply that I was.

#3 I didn't say schools should release the info being discussed, I said I would be interested to read it if they did.

0 for 3.

Your post contained nothing relevant, what was your point?

It would be interesting if the AACPM did provide the numbers; they can be found for both allopathic and osteopathic medical schools. Of course, you have to remember that sometimes the numbers can be interpreted differently. For instance, here's a sampling of Western Universities D.O. application info for Fall 2007:

# Applied: 3,204
# Interviewed: 659
# Accepted: 501
# Enrolled: 220

So, a school may receive w number of applications, interview x number of applicants, accept y number of applicants and, at the end of it all, will only have z number of matriculants. You have to remember that they know that there will be quite a few people who will decline acceptances, defer enrollment, change their mind about their career, etc. so they know that by granting how ever many acceptances that they'll only see a percentage of that number of students on campus that next year. I'm sure this would apply to the podiatric medical schools as well.

I submitted my AACPMAS application today 11/16/09.. How long do you think it will be before I hear back from Barry regarding an interview?

I submitted on the first day and it took about 10 days for my application to be verified.

It was a week or ten days after my AACPMAS app was verified before I got an interview invite from Barry.

that's because you probably are..barry is everyone's backup to their backup plan. no one wants to interview until they've exhausted everything else.

kudos to you for actually being excited about going to barry. "that1guy" that actually wants to go to barry, the others just couldn't get in anywhere else

Is this comment really neccessary? You are just looking to start a flame war. I see you were accepted to some nice schools in the midwest and west coast and that's great. We are all going to become health PROFESSIONALS in the near future...I suggest you start acting like one and not hide behind your anonymity on this board.

Study, don't feed the troll. He/she is has 6 posts, most if not all of them tonight, just meant to stir things up.

Move along, nothing to see here.

You are right about not feeding this troll. There are always a few of them here.

everyone is thinking it, i just said it. 😉

that1guy, how many other schools did you interview at to compare the awesomeness of barry???

i'm just curious to know your story. did you not get interview invites at any other schools???? do you have family around barry and that is why you are staying??? barry seems like it was your 1 and only choice. its normally peoples last (read the first couple of remarks on this post).

i just find your obsession with barry kinda odd since it seems like you have no hands on experience with other schools to compare it with......

i'm just curious....

I am not answering for that1guyfromFl, but I interviewed at others schools and compared many. This is not the last resort for the majority of the students in our class. Think what you will. Many of the students here picked Barry over 2 or 3 other schools they interviewed at. There are many students from all over the country. Just because your # 1 school isn't someone else's #1, doesn't mean they are wrong or not good enough to get into your school. What are we in Middle school?

You are really unbelievable.

In the course of ONE POST you managed to misrepresent comments I have made previously and my opinion of Barry, accuse me of being obsessed, insinuate that I might have chosen Barry because I didn't get a look elsewhere and restate an outright untruth concerning why people "normally" attend Barry.

That nonsense will get you nowhere with me, I don't have time for it.

What is going on here? Who is this katrinaft? Hey what you know about other schools and whats wrong with Barry? Whos your top choice lets hear that. Ill admit my ignorance and say I read some bad stuff about Barry and disregarded them as an option but after doing my own research and talking to the school, I have completely changed my opinion and Barry has become one of my two choice of schools. That1guy, your smart to not want to get in an argument with this person but when someone starts to dog a school for no apparent reason without any facts its kinda hard to hold back and not say something. If you wanna say whatever is on your mind then I guess I will too. I am guessing you hate Barry because you actually wanted to attend and they didnt give you an inteview invite so your just spewing out of frustration. So deal with your disappointments and stop spreading negative propaganda without backing it up.

Barry is a great school, it was my top choice as well.
