Hey,

Has anyone completed this master's program? If so, was it helpful and does it have a good reputation? I'm looking into the Columbia Master's of Nutrition program but I'm not sure if Adcoms will look at this favorably....?? Any thoughts would be great!
Thanks,
Cantstandya

Barry's reputation is horrible. Don't go there, save your money...

do you know first hand that their rep. is horrible or do you know someone who went there and did not get in? What about Columbia's M.S. in Nutrition?

IMO, any 1 year masters program in science is worthless. You will be paying an insane amount of money for inflated grades with no promise of getting into d-school. Couple that with a lousy rep (i.e. Barry) and you have successfully burned a bunch of cash better spent on booze and hookers.

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but last year 43 of the 45 graduating students from the Masters of Biomedical Science Program at Barry were accepted into either Medical, Dental, or Podiatry school. 1 student took a research position and 1 student got a job. Nova Dental looks very highly upon successful completion of Barry's 1 year Biomedical Sciences program. In fact, some of the same teachers work at both Barry and Nova. If you have mediocre grades from undergrad and are looking into proving yourself in a graduate academic environment, then I think Barry is a great school.

I was accepted to Nova because of my successful completion of Barry University's Masters in Biomedical Science Program. I would agree, Nova does look highly at this program and how well you perform.

did you apply after you were done with the program?

I respectifully disagree. If one can enter any Post-Bac MBS programs and do well (getting all As), then any Post-Bac MBS programs will be effective when applying to dental or medical schools.

At NSUCDM, we have been accepting one or two applicants that has done the Barry Univ. MBS program and they are all great dental students. In reality, in these Post-Bac MBS programs, you ONLY want to do one year of it. These Post-Bac MBS programs are set up to be a two-year master degree programs, but your goal is to do well in the first year curriculum and get into a medical or dental school of your choice. Students only do the second years in these Post-Bac MBS programs because they did not do well in the first year and did not become competitive enough for dental or medical admission.

Rule of thumb, if you get anything below "B" in the first year in these Post-Bac MBS programs, then you've defeated the purpose of using these program to make yourself competitive.

Since majority of these Post-Bac MBS programs are private schools, plan on investing $30K for that one year. Hey, since you've fcuked up in undergrad and want to make yourself competitive for dental school, $30K is a small price to pay to redeem yourself.

Other great effective Post-Bac MBS programs for dental schools are:

Midwestern University (Arizona & Illinois)
Nova Southeastern University
