Hey friends, I have been accepted to Barry's 1 year track. I've decided to do M. S. in Biomedical Science program at Barry starting Fall 2011. Please help me decide on the housing part, On-Campus or Off-Campus??? I do not mind paying little extra but 'safety' is my #1 concern. Any suggestions for Off-Campus housing/apartments etc. AND which Hall is the best for On-Campus housing (private bath/single occupancy)???

Please...PLEASE help.

There are no on campus options for living on Barry. They reserve those for under grad.

When you decide to live at an apartment around Barry you must choose 2 of the 3. Cheap, Close to school and Safe. I chose cheap and close to school. DO NOT LIVE AT WATERMARK, or whatever that place is called. Absolutely disgusting. I know a lot of people that lived at Camden(off of Biscayne road and right next to Aventura Mall) which is relatively close to school but you need to find 2 other people to live with there and it becomes pretty affordable.

The place I lived in was called Starcreek apartments. I split rent with a classmate and it came out to 450ish a month for me. I highly recommend it unless you're a girl and you're gonna be living with another girl. Then maybe not.... However, as unsafe as it looks it was NOT bad. I liked it a LOT. It was like 10 minute drive away from school and I loved paying half the rent all my classmates were paying. Also its only a year so what the heck. The only downside is that it is in a poorish area, so don't keep anything nice in your car. I didn't like the laundry machines in the apartment so I just drove out to do my laundry mat and did my laundry there once a week.

Regardless of where you live, it will be at least a good 15 minutes away from Barry. My place was right next to the highway so that's why it was convenient for me

I will suggest living off campus 10-15 minutes away, if safety is your priority. The barry school area looks old and not ghetto, but it is ghetto. I lived 5 mins away from school and moved to Miramar later in the school year... You can look at apartments in Adventura, which is also near the beach. Miramar is 20 mins away from school and is surburban when compared to Adventura. Good luck!

I would recommend living in the Aventura area NE of campus. I went to Barry University for my first 2 years of UG and I lived in the dorms cuz I was on athletic scholarship and we were required to.

We had a lot of trouble with the area directly surrounding Barry and we had break-ins to cars and such all the time...sometimes even more serious crime. Barry isn't the safest place especially with Opa Locka just on the other side of I-95.

But I had a lot of friends who lived in the Aventura area and they loved it. It's much nicer and safer. They had no problems. Since safety is your #1 priority, then that's my strongest recommendation. It's about a 15 minute drive to school.

Hello my name is Lobna I just graduated from the BMS program in May and will still be living in south florida. Im currently looking for a trustworthy roommate i will be moving to a 2bedroom 2 bath in the miramar / pembroke pines area which is about 15mins from Barry and extremely close to all major highways. It will be in a gated community in a good area unlike area where Barry Univ is located in.
