Hi everyone,
I am a current student at Barry university biomedical sciences masters program, let me know if you have any questions or if I can help with any information you may find useful.

Hey, what were your stats? And is this one of those programs that guarantee you a seat if you maintain a 3.5 gpa?
Thank you

I had a 2.9 undergrad gpa and 18 on DAT, so basically every dental school I applied rejected me. when I started the program killed it and maintained a 4.0 gpa retake the DAT and scored 21. I have a couple of interviews as of today. if you mean by guarantee like a bridge program where you get accepted to their own den/med school, no. however if you maintain an excellent gpa it is highly likely that you get interviews and accepted to other schools. last year %65 of the entire graduate students got accepted to med/den schools.

Hey prospectdentist. Thanks for taking your time for doing this. A few questions:

1. What are the requirements of getting accepted into Barry masters program?

2. How long is the program?

3. Did you get financial aid?

4. How much did you pay in total out of pocket?

Of the predental students, how many were there and how many of those got in?

Hey there!
I'm attaching a link from their addmission website you can find those requirements info there (( http://www.barry.edu/biomedical-sciences/admissions/ )).
The program has 3 different tracks, based on your undergrad GPA and some other factors they will place you in two, three or four semesters. The admissions committee will make that decision for you however if you are so sure of your abilities and you think you can handle the intense course work you may appeal to change your track.
Financial Aid is available through financial aid office you can find more info on www.barry.edu/financialaid
So basically financial aid covered all my tuition costs and costs of attendance which includes housing and a normal decent living. I don't work and I live simple I was able to manage my life expenses through costs of attendance.

I met a friend a few days ago at Barry and it happened that she is applying to a pharmacy school! I thought that was interesting because everyone I know so far are applying to dental medical or podiatry schools, looks like BMS works for pre-phrams as well !

Hey guys I recently got into the program for january on the 2year track and i'm trying to find a good apartment! I checked out the list of suggested apartments by the school and they are really expensive. If I can get a female roommate then I don't mind, but until then I plan on looking a little bit out. Has anyone else been looking and found some decent places?!

Yeah, everything is super expensive on that list I got. I am looking for a roommate or two as well!

The program has a facebook page (BMS facebook) if you get a chance and take a look you may find potential roommates, lots of out of state students meet through the facebook page and work on renting a place.

Sorry, is the Financial Aid loans or grants? And can you apply to schools while in the program, like I am a senior and would like to apply to dental school and masters, in case I don't get any acceptances or interviews and Would it be beneficial to do so

This is Financial Aid loans however they offer some different scholarships I think. Of course, in fact that is how this process works. Almost everyone applies before they are graduated from BMS. I have 3 more classes before I graduate and I have applied this cycle and gotten interviews. I will be graduated may 2016 and fall 2016 is when classes start for any dent/med school. It works the same way for students on 12 month track. If you have your DAT or MCAT taken and enrolled in masters program you are eligible to apply and meanwhile when applications are under process you will finish your masters degree this means If you get acceptance from a professional school lets say on Dec 1th ( first batch ) , most likely they will require you to complete your masters degree.

How are you managing interviews and doing the masters currently

So the good thing about getting an interview is that mos of the times they will let you know your interview date way ahead of time. If the interview falls into the same date as an exam professors will create a make up exam for you. As far as missing the classes for a few days while being out for interview, every lecture class is recorded and will be posted on Barry student website the same day so you can always listen to recorded lecture captures later. When it comes to interviews you will get a feeling of how manage everything it'll come to you, a friend of mine has gone through 6 interviews so far and she is still maintaining As in all her exams so far.

I had my interview at NSU college of dental medicine yesterday!!!! It was amazing I met 14 other students from all over the country!!! The interview was super chill, and professional. Good luck to all my other friends at Barry!

Hey ProspectDentist. Congrats on your interviews. I'm also thinking about the program. How is the program at providing support? Was your advisor helpful throughout the application process? Do they offer any tutoring services or working with a TA? Do they help with shadowing opportunities?

hey there! Thank you! What I personally like about this program is the amount of support I get from every body, professors, program director, even students. Professors are always available, respond to emails for meeting requests or questions as quick as in minutes. Some professors including the program director have open door policy where if possible you can hop in and speak with them right away. Everyone works as a team and I love how much support I get from other students. Study groups and sharing information is a routine work. You will get to make a lot of friends very quick and since everyone is working hard for the same goal it feels amazing. There are 3 active TAs on campus almost everyday. There are open lab sessions on Fridays and Saturdays and lastly, we have different student body organization like BMS society or MAPS, within these student organizations there are plenty of dentists and doctors who are willing to help us shadow them . Are you dental or medical ?

That's really great that everyone in the program is so supportive! I'm on the dental track.

And I have a question about the library. Is there a library on the Hollywood campus? Where do most people study?

There is not a library on hollywood campus however, the regular class rooms are empty most of the times and students study in there or at lobby. Also, there is a huge library located at Nova Southeastern University which is in Davie very close to Hollywood City and since it is a county library many students study there. A third option will the city of Hollywood public library which is about 7 minutes away from Barry it is not very huge but decent and quiet. Barry university has a its main library at the main campus which is very big, it is about 20 minutes away from the Hollywood campus in Miami Shores.

Hello, I am starting the program in the spring. I got into the 18 month dental track. I was just wondering of some places to rent for a one bedroom. I tried to find a roommate, but there was no luck.

congratulations on your acceptance! two useful websites to look for apartments are forrent.com and zillow.com you can type in the area code that you would like to live in and brings you lots of options. you can look for city of Hollywood, Davies, aventura, north maimi, miami shores. these are the closest cities to the campus.

Hey there, Biochemistry classes are held on Fridays only, and Physiology has two portions, lab and lecture , which is again once a week . Physio lectures are pretty long like 2.5-3 hours with some breaks, if you get lucky you can set your lecture and lab days together and get it over with , then you'll have the rest of the week to study!

When do you find out whether you were accepted/what do average acceptance stats look like?
I think they should start sending out acceptance letters and emails starting next week for those who have applied for fall semester, of course only if the application is completed. 3.0 gpa average and 18 on DAT average .

Do they accept GRE for predents? I couldn't figure it out from the website. Also what do they expect in terms of shadowing hours/dentistry-related experience?

Yes they accept GRE instead of DAT, in fact its even better. at this time there is not requirement for shadowing but if you have shadowing hours it will make your application to stand out.

Does it also work for people applying to pharmacy schools ?

Yes of course. In my Neuro anatomy class two of my classmates where pre-pharmacy , I recently heard they both got accepted to their pharmacy school of their choice,
