Hey guys, so my top two choices for doing my 1 year masters is either between Rutgers and Barrys. I heard good things about both, but I'm still not sure. What do you guys think?

Well I'm currently attending school in upstate NY, so I feel like cost wise they're pretty similar. The reason I'm doing these programs is so I can increase my GPA to make me more competitive. Can you tell me about the Rutgers program, if you enjoyed it or not, the area, etc, and why you picked it over Barry? I'm inclined towards Barry because of the great weather lol. Being in upstate NY for the past 4 years I'm pretty sick of the cold.Where are you from? What are you looking for in a program? I went to Rutger's MBS so I can comment on that but I'm from FL so I almost picked Barry.
Since you're from upstate NY, I'm sure you know more about Newark's reputation than I did at the time. It is NOT at all a safe sarea HOWEVER; the program did wonders for my GPA and dental school interviews/acceptances. What attracted me to Rutgers more so than Barry was the fact you were able to take dental school classes, which helped a lot during interviews. I got one of the dental school professors at Rutgers to write me a rec letter, which I assume helped out with other dental schools. The MBS individuals at Rutgers does a good job of helping each other out (b/c we're all int eh same boat) and we kinda root for each other to get in somewhere. I'm not gonna say its easier than undergrad but you have less distractions and you feel more motivated to do well. Also most applications advice and such, I either learnt from other students or SDN. The professors there help out somewhat but a lot of it is on your own. Back to teh area- if you get bored, NYC is close by so its not like youre so distant from life but the city of Newark itself sucks. I know individuals who have done the Barry program and have gotten into dental school so I think you're safe either way. As far as my own stats go, I had 8 pre-December interviews, 1 post-December interview, with 4 acceptances, 3 waitlists, and 2 rejections (both came in early Feb tho so I assume I was on the waitlist till the class filled up).
Prefacing this with I have no idea about Rutgers and my opinion of Barry is anecdotal and based off those I have met.
Barry looks like a great SMP program if you're in need of it. I can think of almost a dozen dental students I have met that have attended Barry and are now varying years of dental students. Seems like they place well into dental schools and that the program is heavily attended by predents.

Which program did you end up doing?

Im in the same boat. They both seem like good schools, Im inclined to go to Rutgers but am still torn between which would be the better option. Which did you choose?
18 months ago I had the exact same question in my mind! it literally killed my brain. I finally made my mind and took my chances and chose Barry! After almost one year and half I couldn't be any happier than I am right now. I killed the Master's program with an 4.0 GPA retook the DAT and end up with a 21, got multiple interviews and acceptances. Barry program prepared me in a way that I could never imagine, it was like a format if you did it correctly you had a guarantee seat some where! Program was amazing , no easy As I had to bust my ass, study 10 hours a day buttttttt it all worth it. I also ended up with so much opportunities that I helped my program adviser with research project and the publication soon be announced. Plus now I live where everyone else goes for vacation!!!!!! Don't even doubt choosing Barry as your first choice like a heart beat!!!!!Hey guys, so my top two choices for doing my 1 year masters is either between Rutgers and Barrys. If you're determined to finish your masters in 1 year, Barry might not be ideal choice. Depending on your academics, Barry's program can put you in anywhere between 1-2 year track. For Rutgers, you can finish your Masters in a year if you take enough credits during the semesters. Rutgers is bit more flexible because you can switch to MS route if you wanted to do research.
