Is it realistic to have a part time bartending job while a premed in college?

Would that be extremely detrimental to my studies, etc., or do you think one could manage it?

I'm sure I'll have to get some sort of part-time job anyway, as many are quite short on money while they are in college, so why not bartend? What do you think about this?

I know people who were bartenders as MS1s/2s, so I'm sure it would be fine if, as with everything, you have good time management abilities.

That sounds cool. Did it ever interfere with their studies in the night?

1. maybe
2. I wouldn't recommend it, only because the late hours won't be conducive to a reasonable school/study schedule
3. whatever you like. any job that you like.

I worked at a bar while studying, it's definitely doable as long as you don't have anything early morning the following day, because you might not leave work until 3am (at my job, sometimes 5am, but I was having fun while doing it). My friend also bartended around 3 days a week and he had plenty of time to study (and got accepted). Friday-Saturday gigs would work if you manage your time.

I've worked in a bar and didn't get off work until 2:30am. It wasn't an issue because I was able to schedule all my classes in the afternoon and evening.

I bartended Freshman/Sophomore year. If you can handle the late hours, (2-3am nights) then it's a great job to have. Pays pretty well if you get into a good place, and requires good people skills + serious multitasking.

Bartending is the best! Do it if you got the time.

I probably wouldnt mention it to the folks at loma linda if you are applying there

I don't know how popular your location is, but I worked as a shot boy for two months at a night club 4 hours on Friday, 4 hours on Saturday and I made 3/4 the amount of money if working 40 hrs as a CNA.

Highly recommend for a couple reasons
1) It's a job that will improve your people skills and ability to start and hold conversations. It requires being personable, maintaining a good attitude and controlling your emotions with drunk ****ty customers. You will also be conscious of how you come across. These are all really valuable important things to think about and focus on.
2) It can pay really well for a short period of time.
3) It is a fast pace demanding job. It requires attention to detail and working fast and working in chaos. You will gain alot from an experience like that.
4) You can make a lot of really good friends with the people you work with and see all kinds of backgrounds.

Do you actually know how to bartend? Because it sounds like you don't... It's not really the kind of thing you just do. Usually you start as a barback or server and learn the trade. Unless you're going to work at some kind of beer and shots place. In which case I wouldn't call you a bartender.
