Good PS, and fairly good LOR's

Bay Area Resident. Any help on school list or chances?

Thanks,

Your DAT is superb, but your GPA is really holding you back. You may be able to score 1 or 2 interviews this cycle, but this could just be schools taking interest in you and wanting to hear why you have a sub 3 GPA but a 23 DAT. Acceptance chance are slim, though, unless you really blow your interview out of the water.

I would really recommend doing a Master's program, and I think you have to do it to really be considered competitive. IMO, I wouldn't even apply this cycle. I would use my DAT scores to apply to a Masters (although it's already late...) then apply next year. If you are adamant about applying this year, then make sure you do the newer private schools. Off the top of my head, Midwestern, LECOM, Western, Main, Utah, etc.

I'm in the same boat... but with a Master's degree. What are my chances 🙁

Apply to NYU. I had similar undergrad stats and a lower DAT, and got in. It's expensive, but with those stats, private schools are a better shot.

Maine is not OOS friendly 🙁

Def need a higher GPA by the means of a Post-bac. Remember, schools post average GPAs of each entering class. Your 2.9 is going to sink that average like a cement block. Sorry for being blunt. Good luck👍

P.S. Killer DAT tho, it is valid for 3 years, so you have time.

P.P.S. You should still apply, anything is possible...

I think u have a chance if you apply to 25+ schools and take a full load this semester and get all A's

Schools really need to start posting median GPA in addition to mean GPA. UCSF's mean GPA is listed as 3.4 which is lower than many other schools'. But I bet the comparatively low average GPA is due to a few post-bacc/non-traditional matriculates who had low undergrad GPA but high graduate GPA.

Which 25? I have a list but I'd like to know your idea as well.

If you post your list I may be better able to help. Include every private school in the US in addition to every new school. BU, Tufts, NYU, LECOM, Midwesterns, MOSDOH, UNE,

But also keep in mind you are taking a risk and the worst possible outcome is a loss of a few thousand dollars...it happend to me my first cycle but at the same time I got many interviews from places I applied to twice so maybe they considered the initial donation when inviting me.

Anymore I should add or delete? I have a year to take courses and re-apply but am not looking forward to it.

VCU and Buffalo are state-schools and UCSF is way outta my league no?

It's about increasing your odds...when you have a low stat in one category you can't just expect to know which schools will like you. It's much more random then people think

GPA higher but below a 3.5 and DAT Lower at or above 20 in sections

My lowest subsection is a 21, but my BCP is like a 2.7, 2.9 Science and overall is as mentioned.

Ok well it's gonna be tough getting in....so it depends on your financial situation...remember luck is something none of us can anticipate it just happens I also got a 4.0 in a masters degree to include...but your DAT rocks..also add Michigan I know someone who got in with similar stats

So you think I shouldn't even apply this cycle?

And remember full semester and 4.0 it you may have to wait for post-dec interviews...the academic update will make all the difference

No I didn't say not apply! It's up to you to make that decision! Your DAT rocks you might get lucky.

I'm taking 4 courses this fall, all sciences.

But I'm not in a Master's program. What should I do?

Also add Louisville

I will have the entire year off....so taking more classes might help.

My friend also suggested I look into podiatry but I know nothing about it.

Dude stick with your passion! You have a great DAT. Do a year of post-bacc and reapply if you have to. If your willing to continue to work hard it will work out for u. But remember each decision must be made from your heart and only yours ...GL!

I hope you're right. I wish I had applied to Master's programs months ago, that way I would have a new graduate GPA instead of just bumping up my undergrad GPA.

It doesn't matter don't worry yourself just continue an upward trend!

Well if it makes any difference, I'm doing my classes at a different school near my home.

Where are you getting your OOS stats btw?

I'm telling u based on experiences I had and others had this application cycle. But you could buy the ADA guid or look up Doctoothaches stats underneath one of his posts for more details

To be very frank, almost every school is out of your league with your GPA. :xf::xf:

Times have changed. In 2001, a 3.3 matriculate GPA at VCU wouldn't have been uncommon. Today, its matriculate GPA is 3.6.

But doesn't my DAT make up for it? I always thought you could make up a low GPA with a high DAT and vice versa....

Flip through the pages on this 2001 thread. You may notice a trend of increasing difficulty at getting an acceptance as you progress through the years.

Best success story is post #1451. Our moderator "armorshell" belonged to the 3.0 Club. Since then, he has attended UoP for his DDS and is currently attending UTSW for his MD/OMFS.

A similar thread began in 2007.

Thanks for the resources....what should be my next immediate step? I am lost.

I'm siding with what "laundry" said. You could try your luck at this cycle but as you can tell from the threads that I posted, a lot of people could not get in with <3.0 GPA and without a post-bacc or Master's. Even with a post-bacc or Master's, it's still pretty hard. I remember seeing one poster say he/she only received 1 acceptance out of the 21 schools applied. It only takes one acceptance to become a dentist.

Yeah his was at LECOM. My overall GPA is like 3.25 or something but it's my science and BPC that is killing me

I hope not, I submitted yesterday.
