How do i determine basic condition and acidic condition in organic chemistry?

Depends on these condition, I saw reaction changed. However I do not know how to determine those.

basically, if it has an electron donating group, it is going to be basic. If its has an EWG, its going to be acidic.

It's usually based on the solvent. It should be very easy to tell because the reactions will simply occur in a basic or acidic solution.
