For baseline level of activity, would this be the minimum weight of a marble to be detected as a stimulus? This should be included for a valid study, but wouldn't change the constant relationship between difference threshold and background intensity as shown, correct?

I would assume so... After all, though the experiment tests for JND, you still need to overcome the Absolute threshold to be able to detect anything.
