Basic questions about getting MA

Hi all..(This is a newbie question, but I haven't been able to find an definitive answer for this as yet.)


I am interested in getting a masters in psychology (specifically social psychology) but am confused as to how to go about this. I have looked at many universities' psychology websites, but they all refer to graduate studies as their PhD program only.

Is there a list of schools that offer an MA in (Social) Psychology?

I'm currently in my first year of medical school, and find my training to be quite unfullfilling at this point in time. I just have a bachelor's degree in business and don't have much psychology undergraduate experience.

Can someone tell me what steps or what I need to do to enter into an MA program for Psychology?

Hey, I am a current master's student in a general psych program. I would like to help, but I need some more information from you. I have one main question: what do you want to do with the psych master's degree? I can give you more guidance based on your answer to that question.

As far as I know, master's programs in social psych do not exist. You can find programs in general psychology or experimental psychology, in which you can work with faculty who study social psych in research. Not having much psych experience may hurt, but it won't necessarily exclude you entirely. Psychology programs, even master's programs, can get very competitive, just to give you a heads up.

It can be. In my general master's program, not everyone goes straight into Ph.D. application mode (although most eventually do). Several applied and received solid research assistant jobs or lab coordinator jobs for a couple of years. In those cases, yes, it is heavily research focused. I know others have worked in non-profit, stats for casinos (not quite sure about that one in too much detail...but whatever), and so on. so yes, it is heavily research focused, but this information is based on people from my master's program, which is heavily research focused.
