I have had a few essays published (in blogs and a journal) on medical humanities-adjacent topics. I'd like to use some of the themes, experiences, and specific verbiage from those in my personal statement; is that appropriate? What should I watch out for?

Nope. Make it something original. It's not against the rules, but it makes you look lazy.
