To those in the know...

Where in the mix do UCSF's and Stanford's ophtho residency programs fit in? While they are not UCLA and Hopkins, I was wondering how they rate in terms of:

1) Future career in academic ophtho
2) Faculty
3) Exposure
4) Resident happiness
5) Competition for slots
6) Reputation

Ophtho MDPhD...any info from the application process?

All of the programs in California are quite competitive. I would say ucsf is right up there with the best of them probably a top 10. competition is very stiff there, not uncommon for people /c 250 board scores, junior aoa, strong research not to be offered an interview. In California Stanford doesn't carry the same rep as ucsf, not on the same tier as la, sc, and sf. Dont forget cal pacific, a very good program, strong ties /c ucsf faculty. One negative is the staggered starts.
