Baylor: A troll's quest to smite a fine program

What do you consider BAD? BAD like you dont get you moneys worth and you are not a skilled and asute clinician when finishing or BAD you get worked to death, lots of call ect.
I do think that Baylor residents do have a very intense residency. Lots of call, lots of hours and long ones too. The attendings like to pimp but are very good, most are fairly young and they are big into research. Training wise I think Baylor has a pretty program.
Bentaub General Hosp. - County Hospital serving metro area of 5million people. Level 1 trauma center with very busy ER and hunderds of emergent trauma sugeries. Also serves a poorer pt population, many Latino so you see a ton of high risk OB cases. Bentaub Hospital - Baylor and Hermann Hospital which is UT get the worst of the worst trauma in southeast/central texas.
Texas Childrens Hospital- #5 Childrens hospital in Nation (US News and World Report) Sickest of the sick KIDS in the south central US. A ton of pedi hearts and mod amt of pedi trama, just about every kind of pedi surg will be found here.
The Methodist Hospital - CVOR rotation, also has fellowship. 2000 pump cases a year, hrt, lung transplants, many TAAA's. More VAD's than most places and currently piloting serveral new VAD's as well. Also see freq esophageal gastrectomys tons of vascular CEA's, periph bypasses ect.
Side note: Baylor and Methodist trying to hammer out new deal so not sure of future of the Baylor Dept of Anesthsia and Methodist will be.
Debakey VA hospital - Largest VA hospital complex in Country that does thoussands of surgeries a year.
St. Lukes Episcopal Hospital - Baylor has just signed new agreement with and anesthesia dept may be doing more cases there.
Plus it's in the Texas Medical Center, the largest Medical center in the nation and fastest growing major medical center in the world. If you havent been here its like a medical meca.
MD Anderson Cancer Center #1 in world to many yrs to count
Texas Childrens # 5 in USA, pedi transplants
St. Lukes - # 8 CV Hospital in nation, regional transplant center
Methodist - # 17 CV hospital in nation, regional transplant center, # 11 Neuro and Neuro surg center, plus ranked in top 50 in 8 more subspecialties. Presently building 300 million dollar Methodist research institue.
Memorial Hermann - Level 1 trauma center, Kidney, liver TP
Hermann Childrens Hospital

plus many more.

YEAH! The south sucks. I'm five minutes from a boat launch to the best trout/redfish fishing anywhere on earth, I can play tennis on Christmas day, I can go to a drive-up daquiri shop on my way home from work, I'm an hour's flight to Florida's Emerald Coast beaches, and the only reason I'd buy a snow shovel is to pick up my 120 pound Great Pyrenees's poop. Oh, and anesthesiologist's salaries are pretty high here.

Truth of the matter, I love what I do and I love our program. Search my previous posts and that will back it up. We work 60-70 hours a week (like most programs). Our residents are happy and our attendings are laid back and always there to help. We have a great incoming class with residents from prestigous medical schools. In my class alone, 9 of 21 residents stayed from med school (Baylor) to be in our program. THAT says alot about Baylor anesthesia. Do you have any questions for me to clarify about our program?? Please ask before posting misinformed opinions on this board that might scare potential applicants away. Thanks guys.

In a few months the current class of MS3s is going to start applying. I'm sure a lot of the "trolling to scare away the competition" is going to happen again (reminds me of the Stanford post last year) and just wanted to make a suggestion to the moderators.
Add a troll to the smile list. Something from the Lord of the Rings, or a little Yoda, or a green smurf. This is the closet I can find currently on the list. 👎 Then maybe one of the moderators can tag it on the main subspecialty page when it is viewed (post icons function).
