I heard that Baylor has been pretty successful in the past with regards to filling all of their seats in the first round. Is this true? Is there any hope left?

Seriously? This is getting off to an even earlier start than usual. Every year people start posting on SDn that X school is full. First they start posting threads with titles like:

***********University of X is FULL!!!*****************

Eventually someone gets pissed and posts a thread called:

STOP POSTING THREADS ABOUT SCHOOLS BEING FULL!!!!!!

And inevitably, people start justifying why they posted so and so, who told them so and so, and the cycle repeats. I'm not saying it won't happen again this year...it will. ALl I am saying is that it is amazing how many students still seem to get accepted to schools after these schools and officially declared "FULL" on SDn

that's funny....how can baylor be full when some ppl from the first round declined their acceptance?

do they not overaccept on purpose?

do they not overaccept on purpose?

i have no idea. with the quesiton of overaccepting, let's say that they send out 100 acceptances ( i think their class size is 95) and all 100 want to attend, how will they decide the 5 that don't get in? i don't know if this happens or not. just posing a question. i thought this situation was along the lines of why schools only send out a fraction of acceptances for their total seats... it would be a shame to not get a seat b/c you didn't send your deposit in fast enough

The number's more along the lines of accepting 120-160 for a class of 80-100. History tells them how many and of what creditentials of students to accept. Lots of schools aim to fill or nearly fill their class by Dec 1st. If more students accept than they anticipated, they'll open up more spots or ask students to not come, which was one school's situation last year.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Dr. Miller said they try to fill 2/3 of the class with first round acceptances. I know a few people from years past tha got there acceptances in Feb. I'm sure you still have a shot. First rounders have until the 15th to make there decision. Hang in there!

Don't worry Dent... you still have like 8 different schools you interviewed/are going to interview at.

Different schools try to fill up different amts of their class. If they want to fill up 2/3, the question is how many did they have to accept to achieve that 2/3. ....2/3, 3/3, 4/3?

Interesting observation since Baylor has claimed that for last year's class not a single acceptance came from a waiting list with implication that they all came from the first and only round.

By how you are looking at it. The question is how many applicants have Baylor ranked #1? The more that have Baylor as their #1 then less seats will be available for second rounders.

What I was saying, as a rule of thumb after the first round usually 2/3 of the class is filled leaving 1/3 to be filled by second, third. etc....rounds. Most of the first round accepted applicants receive more than one offer leaving seats at subsequent schools open for later acceptance offers.

Good Luck to you denticus!!!! I will be surprised if you don't hear from Baylor. hang in there!!

2/3 information came from Dr. Miller during my interview as a general target. Years past did not specify LAST YEAR just some point in the past.

It would be interesting to see statistics from the past 5 or 10 years to see the percent class filled after 1st round. I would bet it fluctuates between all three programs fairly equally. For what ever reason one year to the next applicants become overly impressed with one school.

Drat! I sure hope you're wrong this year because I'm getting desperate...can you tell? Thanks Jdoc04 & airsimon, I hope that both of you are right!

The way I understood it last year is that the wait list/alternate list was formulated at Baylor around early March. Just because you don't get accepted December 1st (first round) doesn't mean you are on the wait list. Many schools notify applicants if they are on a wait list. Dental school acceptances are also on a rolling admissions basis, so once first round letters go out, other acceptance letters can go out at any time after applicants let the school know they will not be attending. I heard last year that Baylor filled up their entire class from first round acceptances. I think it would be more correct to say maybe from December acceptances. I was accepted on December 1st and chose not to attend Baylor. Also, from reading posts last year, there was an applicant who was accepted to Baylor during the spring, I wanna say sometime in March. Anyways, the point is, don't give up hope. Out of the people who have accepted Baylor, they could be waiting out on a different school, and some people could currently be holding more than one spot. Official notification of December 1st letters is by January 15th... so many letters will go out across the country, and seats will open up at schools that appeared to be "almost full." Keep your head up, and good luck!
