Baylor or Colorado?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I need some input guys. I narrowed my choices down to these two, but can't decide which one. Please help me decide.

What is your residency?

I'm out of state for both

Baylor for sure. The tuition is still dirt cheap for out of state and you're going to get an amazing education. You won't regret your decision. 👍

awesome teeth do you attend Baylor?

Nope, I got waitlisted there last year. I'm a D1 at another dental school right now. But it was my top choice last year. I have a bunch of friends who go there currently and I shadowed a dentist who graduated from Baylor. They all have great things to say about it so that's why I have a strong opinion 😀

Go to Colorado. More room for me at Baylor. ^_^"

it's a tough call. it depends what you want from each program and city. both have a great program, and their students seemed down to earth.
colorado -great place if you are into outdoor activities: skiing/snowboarding, hiking, cycling
baylor - cheap tuition

I grew up in Texas and love Texas, but the best decision I ever made was that I went to NYC for school. I got all the partying out of my system. To me Texas is home and where I want to start a family, but while I am single and in the twenties, I think it is good for me to gain exposure to different cities/people/cultures.

You went to NYC over a texas school?? Wow...... It might be nice and fun now but it's going to hurt like hell when you pay back your loans. 👎

haha, NYC only for undergrad with scholarships. for dental school, I would love to go to Colorado since I am into snowboarding and cycling. I figure, I can always go back to Texas after 4 yrs of schooling....and live there for the rest of my life.

Colorado tuition is much steeper, but hopefully I can make a good living as a dentist by the time I graduate.

Ah I see, I thought you meant you choose a new york dental school over a texas dental school. I almost spit out my sandwich and coke all over my laptop.

Go to Baylor! Robert Griffen is a great football player...sorry that has nothing to do with anything. In all seriousness...CU's a great school...boulder is an amazing little city...outdoor mecca (enough said). Boulder is pretty saturated with docs, but its a great place to learn and play! If it were me I'd without question pick CU. Good Luck with your choice.

Baylor College of Dentistry is actually affiliated with Texas A&M. The name is for tradition and history purposes more then anything. It has nothing to do with Baylor University, Waco, or RGIII 😀

Just random information but Baylor College of Medicine also has nothing to do with Baylor University in Waco. It went independent in the early 70s.

Yeah they're not affiliated anymore...but I definitely agree about Robert Griffin! 🙂

I vote Baylor. If I was still a TX resident, I would have chosen it

CU AMC dental has nothing to do with the Boulder campus at all. It is nowhere near boulder but like an hour away. However you can go to campus in live in boulder (which I do) with out much problem thanks to a great RTD system

Baylor has high clinical requirements and you do a lot of your own lab work that you wouldnt do at other schools. Also theres no A- (92%=B+).

But its got the 3rd cheapest tuition in the nation. Great program, students, location, faculty.

-Baylor D1

does that grading scale make school "that much more" difficult? Or once in do you not really notice it?

What is life like as a D1, can you give me a breakdown of how much time is spent in class, studying, free time on average per week?

How are the professors are they approachable?

What does housing run around the school? Are there any places you would recommend?

Thank you for the insight.

The grading scale shouldnt be a factor b/c they will convert the grades to standard if you are trying to specialize....

I actually was in a summer pre dental program at Baylor and I really enjoyed my stay. I cant speak on behalf of a D1 student, but from what i've heard, D1 year is pretty tough because of the transition that you have to make from undergrad; But thats with every dental school right?!

The professors are friendly and very approachable.. although like every school there might be some professors who aren't. Yet to see any unaproachable professors at Baylor.

There are two nice apartment comples around the dental school. One is the
Marquis at Gaston and the other is Broadstone Ambrose apartment. All of which are like a 4 -8 min walk from campus. There are other housing available, i think a 10 minute drive away, but im not to familar with them.

I currently been selected for class of 2016 and will most likely be living at the Marquis apartments.

Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions.

Good Luck on you decision.
