I am interviewing for Baylor's PsyD program this Saturday. I am wondering if there are any current students that wouldn't mind telling me what to expect, what they are looking for in an applicant, the good and bad things about the program, etc.
This is my first interview and Baylor is one of my top choices, so any information or advice would be great!
I visited prior to an interview and was selected to interview there in the 2007. Baylor appeared to be a really solid program, I would have loved to have attended it, faculty and graduate students all seemed pretty well balanced. My impression was that they were looking for students with a good balance of clinical acumen or early career experience (suicide hotlines, inpatient centers, etc) and a healthy interest in clinically applied research. So I believe that it's an all around approach to evaluating candidates. When I applied, photographs were taken of each applicant to be used later in discussions and I assumed also to evaluate the emotional reaction both from faculty and graduate student alike. I interviewed with the two POI's I expressed interest in.
Good luck, let us know how the interview process has changed or differs. FWIW, I had a 4.0 UGPA at University of Texas San Antonio and a 1300 GRE (157v/158q today), research experience, and no clinical experience which I believed hurt my chances. Expect all the other successful applicants to be in the 1250+ GRE (160v/150q) and 3.75 GPA range at Baylor. Given the above posted scores, I would guess that not much has changed.
