Hi guys. I just got my Baylor secondary and I can't decide what to write about for their "special experiences" essay. With only 2000 characters, do I write about my childhood, medical motivations and experience, research, or what? They say that you can't include information copied from AMCAS, but I think AMCAS pretty neatly summarizes me as an applicant. How did any of you who applied to Baylor handle this essay?

probably just got the email about it after submission and didn't know it'd been available this whole time.

isn't this essay optional? i think i know people who have done fine and had left this essay blank for the secondary. don't try to make up something. i talked about something unique about myself.

Yes, I just got the email saying "Thanks for submitting via AMCAS. If you haven't already, please fill out our secondary." I'd been out of the country for the past few weeks post-MCAT, so I hadn't been focusing on secondary submission.

It's optional in TMDSAS, but if you try to move on from the question in the Baylor secondary, you get a little pop-up box that says "Special Experiences is required." I would have laughed if I hadn't been desperately trying to think of something too... I ended up writing about moving to Texas right before the hurricanes last year.

haha my bad. i wasn't sure if i was mixing them up. in any case, OP just write about something interesting and unique. nothing else you can really do.

That Baylor question is an open door to whatever you want to say to the adcom beyond the contents of your primary app:

Indicate any special experiences, unusual factors or other information you feel would be helpful in evaluating you, including, but not limited to, education, employment, extracurricular activities, prevailing over adversity. You may expand upon but not repeat AMCAS application information.
2000 character limit.

If you had a bad semester, you could elaborate on the circumstances. If you mentioned you love classical music, traveled abroad, etc. you could dive into that. Something you like about Baylor in particular? Here's your chance.

Go for it!
