Have heard that the UTSW is very busy than baylor..but i personally felt that botht the programs are very good overall..
but why is baylor loosing its reputation?

Tough choices lie ahead for BCM. Their effects on medical students are likely minimal, slightly greater effects would be for residents, but considerable disruption for faculty. In particular, their ability to retain and attract faculty has diminished, and programs are suffering ... For example, read this recent blog: http://blog.kir.com/archives/2010/01/did_rice_blow_i.asp

BCM still is a great residency but not what it was in 2002/3. As of now, IMHO, UTSW has the brighter future as the top Research Medical School of Texas than BCM. However, if the Rice-BCM merger could be re-kindled, the balance tilts again to BCM. Rice faculty balked at the upfront cost of assuming BCM liabilities.

Nevertheless, for CLINICAL learning (what residency is about), Neurology residency training at UTHSC-Houston and UTHSC (SA) might be comparable to UTSW or BCM.

Thank you very much for the reply!! Ur post is very helpful. So considering the reputation of Baylor there re chances that the program would regain its position again in some years.

I agree with Fencer. Having moved to neuro residency out of state, I often see out of state students choose UTSW or BCM to interview solely based on overall reputation. Remember that med school rep is different than residency reps. Each residency program has its own attributes and reputation at an institution. Also remember that one of the most important things to consider when choosing a residency program is if wanting to do private practice, good clinical training is most important. If wanting to do academics, find strong research. Even better, find a place that has both! As a former UT Houston student, the neurology program clinically is one of the strongest in Texas and in certain divisions, super strong in research. Just my 2 cents that I learned while interviewing.

Thank you very much for the reply!! I have applied only to Baylor and UTSW in Texas. I found both th programs equal in terms of clinical exp, research opportunities but considering the financial issues i feel i would rank UTSW higher thn Baylor. Please advise.

As I said, at the level of residency, your anxiety is unjustified. The impact of BCM liabilities to a trainee is relatively minor. Make a decision based on how comfortable you felt when you interviewed. Would you like to be with those guys as your senior residents?

Thank you for the reply!! Now im clear about my ranking. I have read your posts on different topics and i must say that your advice is very sensible nd helpful. You must be a gr8 attending !! thnks again

I'm having a hard time in choosing which program to rank higher. New opinions on which program to rank higher?

UTSW....just to be on safer side.... 👍

Working on the good 'ol ROL.

Has Baylor given anyone else post-interview feedback?

PM me if you want, I heard mixed things on this tradition, but was curious since I know they're a larger program and were interviewing a lot of people, esp this year it seemed. There was mention that they've never gone below 40 on their rank list, don't know if anyone heard something similar.

Thanks.

No specific comments on a specific program...

but please be careful out there boys and girls. Good luck.

Say what?
I was just wondering if anyone got unsolicited or solicited feedback. Doesn't have to give us specifics.
