1) is it possible to find locum or tele jobs where I can only do 3-5 days a month to add on to my hospitalist job?
2) are there any telestroke only jobs or do I always have to do general neurology too? ( just want to see acute stroke consults )
3) which one pays more, locums or tele?

The acute stroke/inpatient tele jobs that I have come across want a commitment of at least 7 days per month. And yes, there are lots of tele-acute stroke only jobs.

You could probably find locums gigs for 3-5 days per month.

Locums will typically pay more for the amount of work you put in as it is about providing much needed coverage as opposed to strictly productivity (number of patients seen), which is a big part of teleneurology.

Locums gigs for 3-5 days per month are...unlikely. It's not worth credentialing someone for such a small amount of time. The exception to this is if it's a big client (think you staff the entire department) and there may be small holes like that to fill occasionally, but otherwise the other docs have it covered.

Tele is probably your best bet.

I'd use google for the rest. Or search the forum.

Yea agree with Telamir above, 3-5 days of locums would be hard to find, esp on a consistent level. Maybe an outpatient clinic somewhere could let you do few days a week or every other week. Esp like a multi specialty group that are looking for a neurologist for their patients.

Also as mentioned above by Neurogeneral, Tele gigs typically require at least 7 days/month and they make you work for it. Turnover is high. I think telespecialists used to allow 4 shifts/month but they all had to be nights or weekends.

Telestroke rates are somwhere around $140-190/patient seen with some bonus/benefits structure. Its hard to see more than 17-18 shifts in a 12 hour shift regularly. You can theoretically make more money if you see a lot of patients. Locums inpatient can typically pay 2.5k-3.5k/shift for inpatient and around 225- 250/hr plus travel/accomodation for outpatient. Although we've had people here on this forum reportedly getting over $5k/shift by directly contacting places.
