Hi all, I am a long time lurker but wanted to ask a legitimate question, however ridiculous it might seem.
SKIP IF YOU DONT WANT BACK STORY
In short, I am a 23 year old senior from Houston that could graduate next Spring in my original major (non medical or bio related). But I have had an on and off fascination with going into the medical field for the last year or so ever since I took some anatomy and physiology courses. I was not only interested in it, but also did extremely well and for probably the first time ever, actually enjoyed studying. Both of my a&p professor went out of their way to suggest a career in medicine, which further convinced me to give the idea some thought.
But of course I was not concerned with gpa for most of my college years. I was more focused on working and didn't have a reason to do more than just pass. I have never made anything lower than a B, except one F that a pre calc professor gave me my first year when I mistakenly thought not showing up for more than three days without an excuses would result in a W, which apparently it did at one time in my college, but not at that time... Although I can still manage to pull a 3.6 if I do well in the remaining pre reqs I will be taking.
ACTUAL QUESTION
Honestly, I would love to go to any med school in Texas. But I have a particular interest in Baylor and am wondering just how amazing I would have to do on the MCAT to have a shot with a 3.5-3.6 gpa? A boy can dream, as they say. 🙂
Your goal should be to score as high as you possibly can.
their median is a 35 with a 3.7GPA
Since your hispanic, it might help a little, but you would still need high 30s.
Taking the MCAT with the goal of a 35 is a poor perspective. Everyone should study with the goal of a 45.
Of course the vast majority of people (almost all) will not reach that goal, but what it is more important to focus on getting the highest score you can obtain.
Remember that TX schools accept 90% from in-state, that's what I heard. 30+ will get you a spot.
I think he wanted to know specifically about Baylor, and their 10th percentile is a 31.
