baylor21/scooby doo, are your schools on a quarter system?

someone raised the interesting point that perhaps the out-of-order problem that people on quarter systems have been having is the reason why their apps haven't been processed yet.

this would certainly explain why mine hasn't been verified. when i was filling out AMCAS, there was a glitch in the app that resulted in every single winter quarter being out of order--it wasn't converted to the proper academic year as fall/spring quarters were, thus every winter quarter was off by a year. i called AMCAS several times about this and was emphatically told to get my app in if it was otherwise completed and that they would resolve the glitch when they verified my grades. so i submitted it on june 24th, the first day i was 'allowed' (i'm an 'M'). and although my MCATs popped up at the same as baylor21, and the schools i applied to the first time around (i'm a second-time applicant) have 'previous application' dates by them, NO progress on grade verification (ie, little marks next to my grades) is evident. perhaps either AMCAS is having trouble putting everything back in the right order, or they can't figure out why my quarters are out of order and it's slowing down the grade verification process?! you would think that it wouldn't be that hard to piece everything together (since we had to label every term with our academic status: freshman, etc) but knowing the way things are going, i wouldn't be surprised if this was the reason my app is held up....

HMm i thought the out of order winter grades were due to the fact that AMCAS considered the beginning of winter quarter as december.

yes, that's right--NOW i know that. but every single person i spoke to at AMCAS (three different people) in mid-june as i was finishing my app never even mentioned that, even though i *explicitly* asked if the application considered winter quarter to begin the same calendar year as fall quarter. they told me that was incorrect and that the out-of-order quarters was specifically due to a glitch in the software, and to just go ahead and submit, which i did. i only found out that what these people told me was flat-out wrong about two weeks ago or so, after my MCAT scores had appeared. this clearly shows you how little the people answering the phones really know about the issues they're trying to address.

anyway, what's done is done. my app is submitted and now i just want it to be processed. so i'm wondering if the fact that every winter quarter is off by a year is what's holding up the grade verification process, even though the reason it is out of order is because i followed AMCAS's advice!

*sigh*

I had the same issue. When I filled it out, I figured the good people at AMCAS for some inane reason had the winter qtr starting in December. So, I modified my application to fit their needs. So, thus, by their standards, my quarters are in order. And my verification has also not happened, and I submitted June 26. Perhaps they're lazy and don't want to do quarter-based transcripts because there'd be so many more classes. 🙄

I think Scooby's school might be on the quarter system, but my school is semester-based.

I will have almost 200 semester hours by graduation this December which I'm sure is quite a bit higher than average, but that didnt seem to keep the AMCAS people from processing mine.

I would like to think that the AMCAS people would take a little initiative on their own when confronted with something liek this. Its not THAT HARD to figure out.

Good luck to you guys.

Nope Baylor,

UC Berkeley is the only UC that is on the semester system! Semester has to be the best system in th world..for me that is....I loved it!!!! 🙂

oh well. so much for THAT theory. 😀 thanks for the posts, everyone.

in retrospect, i *should* have done what you did, ajr. but when i asked the AMCAS people if i should just manipulate my winter quarters by PURPOSELY entering the previous calendar year (which is in fact what i now know i was supposed to do), i was told to avoid doing this at all costs and to follow the application's instructions to the letter, and that they would resolve the glitch by the time my app was up for verification. frankly i am not aware of a single school on the quarter system that begins their winter term in december so there was no reason for me to think at the time that the app could possibly be deliberately configured for that.

oh well. this problem is relatively minor compared to other people's problems.
