I was accepted to BCOM. I love the school, the community, the culture, and the way the curriculum is structured. Down side: lack of a track record, and I'm unsure about how clinical rotations are going to work since no students have started their 3rd year yet. I don't mind the private loans for semester 1 (or year 1?), and the for-profit status doesn't matter to me. I've already slapped down the 3k deposit. The goal is to eventually come back to the west coast, regardless of specialty.

I also have II invites from NY Touro and KYCOM. I've been reading a lot of sketch things about NY Touro.. and KYCOM seems to be on an upward trend. I'm lucky enough that my mom is willing to help out with some of my finances... but I still want to be tactful in managing my expenses. Are there any glaring red flags about BCOM that I'm missing? Are there any compelling reasons I should choose these schools over BCOM (If I get into them)? Or should I just stop wasting time and money and run with BCOM? Thanks for the help!

I don't think interviewing will be a waste of time. At the very least, it's good practice. BCOM is a great school even though we are new. Just know that if you do choose BCOM, you will work your tail off. BCOM intentionally over prepares it's students for the boards, as we use the Dubin (spelling?) curriculum. Compared to friends of friends who are in other medical schools, we definitely learn way more material at a faster pace. As far as clinical sites go, I'm told they are wards based and in major cities (El Paso, Albuquerque, Tucson, etc.). I'd interview at both, but be careful with Touro. They seem shady. KYCOM is a good school though.

My advice to you is to go to the school your gut tells you to got to, not what SDN tells you is better. Your "fit" means A LOT in terms of your psychological well being as the semesters heat up.

Congratulations and good luck!
