BCP vs sGPA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
BCP!because sGPA can include any other courses considered science at ur uni or adea, for instance economics, earth sciences, but BCP are the harder, and more like the science and level of diffuculity ull encounter in dental school

My BCP is only a 3.63, do you guys think ill be alright...20DAT/21PAT

FYI, economics is counted as nonscience

🙄 is that really a question? =X

haha only in pre-dental is a 3.63 considered high lmfaoo

Do you guys know how AADSAS counts A+? I am trying calculate my BCP by hand since AADSAS is taking to verify my GPA's.

By SDN standards, it is only average. By normal standards, you are fine. lol.

By SDN standards, it's below average. Must have a 3.8+ to get into d-school 😀

I hope BCP is looked at over sGPA, I have a 3.3 BCP and a 3.15 science!!

I guess I'm in the opposite camp. I took a bunch of Bio/Chem/Phys 101 style classes while still in high school and ended up getting a couple Bs which dragged my BCP a little bit below what it should be. Oh well can't do nothin' bout it now...wish I'd known 6 years ago when I was taking those classes, not trying hard enough and getting Bs 😳.

I do think BCP > sGPA since Bio/Chem/Physics are way more important than math and all the other 'sciences'.

I'm not sure. I've heard BCP is something AADSAS "made up" (not my words) and schools don't officially recognize it when making decisions or something.

I know personally my BCP towers over my overall GPA (3.74/3.16). I have two straight years of 4.0, good EC's, and my DAT is strong as well. Yet, of the few schools I've applied to, only UF has started to give out interviews and I'm bitterly without one despite being in the first batch; I'm convinced they're seriously that hung up over my overall GPA even though the rest of my application (in my biased opinion) more than makes up for it. Meh, who knows? It's late, I'm cranky, and the elite level of SDN users is making me senile.

Your DAT score is excellent and I am sure along with excellent ECs + LORs you will have absolutely no problem securing an interview at at least 1 school that you applied to. (I hope you applied to a decent amount of schools, i'm sure you will get more than 1 interview!)

Out of curiosity though, how many credit hours is your BCP? If it's relatively low, that might explain why they may be hesitant. Also, how many credit hours is your biology GPA? Sometimes the schools that do a holistic review may be looking for a few science-heavy semesters (preferably biology) where you show that you can excel under those circumstances.

This is just my 2 cents and I have no idea how admissions actually looks at an application. Hope it helps and keep your chin up! Remember, every school is different and so UF may for some reason not choose you, but that doesn't mean that a bunch of other schools wont. 👍
