My gpa for my sciences will be above 3.5 by the time i apply and the overall gpa will be not much higher. However i have a couple W and 2 C's.

What I do have though is a lot of research and other extra curricular stuff like shadowing volunteering, ect. I did my research in a inorganic chem lab on lanthanide synthesis and got a $1000 research grant because of it. Also, i'm about to be published in a inorganic chem journal.

I'm confident i can get around 30 on my MCAT.

Do I have a good shot at MD or should I go straight to DO? or maybe not even bother and just go to AA or PA school?

Thanks!

About 56% of whites and 50% of Asians with your stats(assuming you get a 30) got into MD schools between 2009-2011. I don't think you have to apply PA. I would apply to mostly MD schools with a small handful of DOs as a backup.

If you can get your MCAT in the 33-35 range, if the past data holds true when you apply. Your odds jump up to 70% if you're white and 66% if you are Asian. If you can get in this range, I would save your money and not apply DO and apply to as many MD schools as possible.

Take your time with the MCAT and take it only once. Don't take it until you are consistently scoring where you want to be on practice tests. I say at least 3 to 5 practice tests in a row.

Oh yeah, don't sweat the Cs or Ws. Tons of people in med school have them on their transcripts.
Good Luck!

I have a 3.6

I did well on the MCAT which I be helped with pre-secondary screenings, etc. Otherwise, you can check my MDapps for other info. I'm a multi-cycle reapplicant, but have found success this year! 🙂 I asked a similar question and considered doing DO this cycle--but as you can see I went MD only and it's gone decently thus far!

For applications, your research will hopefully make you interesting. Of course, hopefully you have the volunteering, clinical EC's etc that paint a compelling picture of why medicine would be a good fit for you (vs. research).

Goodluck!
