I took a course that was put on by the nutrition department called 'Micronutrients, Phytochemicals & Health'. Most of what we talked about had to do with the role of vitamins/minerals/phytochemicals in physiology/cancer/disease/etc. The course code was NUTR 3300, suggesting that the course was indeed a nutrition based course, but the material was definitely not your average nutrition course.

Can I classify this course as BCPM (under biology)?

Sounds like nutrition to me. You can put it as another type of course, AMCAS will change it if they don't like it. Its probably not worth the hassle in the long run.

yeah nutrition classes are not BCPM, unfortunately.

what about epidemiology?

by the way, if i did decide and put that nutrition course as BCPM how much would this delay my application verification? what does AMCAS do if they are questioning whether a course is BCPM or not?

???

How do they handle classes that we might classify as a science, but they disagree? Do they just change it or do they tell you? Do they delay your application?

What you can do (and what I did) was to classify it as BCMP. If AMCAS doesn't like the designation, they'll just change it to AO (probably HEAL). Of course, there will be a big huge X next to the entry that they changed, but I have yet to figure out if schools even know or care what that X means. There is no indication as to what was changed about your entry if it is changed.

I'm pretty sure epidemiology is also HEAL (for health). Changes to your transcript entries do NOT delay your application verification. The only thing that does delay your application verification is submitting late.

If you dispute AMCAS's changes you can write them a letter explaining why you dispute it. You may have to provide a description of the course either from a catalog or from the course syllabus.
