BCPM vs GPA do med schools care more about one than the other?

Hi, I looked through many posts on this.. and ppl seem to have different opinions... is the science more important than the other?.. if you have a higher science and lower other does this matter?

I would say that the BCMP GPA is more important than the non-science GPA. Granted, your overall GPA is important, so don't fail those other classes. Remember that the ADCOMS are looking to see if you can handle science-based classes and medical school.

This is a total guess...but I think BCMP should be no more than say 0.2 points lower than total GPA...if both BCPM and total GPA are at 3.6+, that is great and the spread or differential will not matter...but if BCPM starts dropping below 3.4, even with a 3.6+ total GPA, I think it becomes problematic...similarly, though, if total GPA starts dipping below 3.4, even with a higher BCPM, that is problematic, too...

I think that the BCPM GPA counts for more than the AO or the overall GPA. Medical schools want to see how you can perform in science classes since this is what you learn in medical school. If you have a higher science than the others I think that this might be better since it shows that you enjoy and are good at science rather than literature, history, etc.

in the recent interview with the admissions guy at Michigan he says they consider the BCPM more important than overall.

of course both should be competitive.

Your BCPM is only good to the extent that your MCAT confirms it's worth. Also Adcoms will probably compare your BCPM to that of your classmates at the same college and difficulty among different colleges. Some colleges grade harder for humanities while others have major grade inflation. They're going to look at the big picture rather than doing weird calculations with your BCPM and AO.
