Since the two health systems are merging, any idea how/if this will affect the residency programs? I was hoping to avoid calling/emailing the PC and putting them on the spot for an answer... Are there any current residents stalking the forum who have an idea, or anyone else who has already contacted them about it?

What a power house merger. You damn residents, Beaumont and Henry Ford, I wish I had your experience. The best of the best coming together. You lucky dogs. I'm so jealous. I can't wait until I get to work as an attending someday with you guys. I could learn all the things the "programs for profit" didn't know or care to teach. So jealous of you, can't wait to meet in the real world.

Wtf?

It won't. How many hospital systems have more than one residency?
The answer is not zero. They're run like independent franchises.

yeah this is a bit puzzling... my guess he/she is from one of the other MI residencies? cuz i sure as heck don't envy anyone who trained in Detroit, not for one second!

patients with money does not equal good teaching... quite the opposite!

But Detroit is poor and with crazy amounts of trauma and pathology.

i know, but it's also a very mediocre place to live for 3-4 yrs.

my reference to $$ was only b/c that poster mentioned it.

Yeah I don't know what he was referring too. It's not terrible out here man. If you ever come out here I can show you the world, shimmering shinning splendors!

Patients with money? Have you heard of Detroit? This city has more pathology than anywhere else in the country.

I'm not sure your point makes any sense at all... All of the hospitals in Detroit are essentially critical access hospitals, and the fact that they are privately funded has absolutely nothing to do with the clientele. Thanks for playing, though.

I'd have to imagine you would get pretty good training in Detroit. I'm actually suprised some of their programs aren't more highly thought of. That city is pathognomonic for Pathology.

Official word is no change in medical education. We stay separate, with separate medical school affiliations (HF stays with Wayne State, Beaumont with the new med school they are starting).

There may ultimately be some areas that can benefit the programs if they can take advantage of each other. For example Beaumont has much more pediatrics than Henry Ford. Ford has much more trauma (at least penetrating).
