Does anyone know any providers certified to instruct ebts, like ACT, MBCBT?. A lot of these therapies cost like $10,000 to become certified plus require a lot of time. I wonder if it is a worthwhile endeavor financially?

I bet someone will "certify" you to do EMDR if you pay enough. 😉
Maybe we could make an EMDR app for a phone. I already have one that does blinky lights. We just need to make up some psycho-babble about neuro-modulation or some such. These blinky lights help with trauma because they are specifically tuned to a frequency associated with a relaxed state on an eeg. These blinky lights help with depression because they are... We could go on Shark Tank with this one and make millions.
Too late! Before I posted this I did a quick google and saw that I have been beaten to it. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emdr-therapy/id477504212?mt=8
I'll never get rich. :arghh:

I've never heard of this outside the VA. Frankly, I'd be skeptical of someone who made too much of this kind of "credential." People who really know what they're talking about don't need to be "certified."

Perhaps develop a mobile ECT app utilizing the Samsung Galaxy Note 7?

Doesn't Marsha Marsha Marsha do this?

Her company offers certification in DBT, but I didn't think it was for trainers specifically. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Same with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.

Now that I think of it, the Gottmans offer a certification for trainers, but to be honest they don't usually jump to mind when I think of EBTs...

The MI folks have their network of trainers, but their process is a little more open and they forbid trainers from calling themselves "certified." Certification seems kind of antithetical to the culture of the ACT/RFT crowd.

I think anyone who goes through 2 years of part time study, attends multiple workshops, and received peer to peer supervision for a specific modality of training to become certified is more conversant with it t than someone who has a generalist clinical psychology doctorate

I think the beck and Ellis institutes offer such training.

Sears used to sell an at home ect device, waaay back when. Worked on a hand crank generator. Didn't induce seizures.

My point is that shelling out money to XYZ organization may be superfluous for someone who has become highly competent by virtue of things like advanced study, multiple workshops, peer to peer supervision, etc. Thinking back to some of the best training workshops I've ever had in EBTs, I don't remember anyone touting their certification as a trainer in this or that type of therapy. So I ask you: what do you think is to be gained?

It turns out that the Academy of Cognitive Therapy does offer a trainer-specific certification, btw. The Beck Institute offers training but does not issue certificates.

I have a more favorable opinion of board certification, which recognizes multiple pathways to becoming competent in a given area, BUT they focus on clinical practice and not education/training competencies.

Depends on what "certification" means. I know some social workers who are "certified" in certain things after going to a single workshop at a conference. I'm not certified in PE, although I did do 3 years of supervised practicum with a colleague of Foa's. I am sure as **** not going to plop down a ton of money and waste the time to get "certified." I can do that therapy in my sleep. I don't see a problem with certification as a construct, just that it's current application and amorphous definition usually preclude it having any meaning, clinically speaking.

I've gotten a lot of brochures in the mail recently for ACT certification- I assumed they got my address through ABCT. I can share some of that information with you, but have the feeling that it's not a good ROI. I have the Hayes ACT book and find it useful to supplement some of my CBT/DBT work. I've found that (with the occasional supervision/discussion) sufficient for my own work.

The only certifications I've considered are the Btech training for DBT and PCIT training. I've been doing DBT on a pre-existing team for a while but get the sense if I ever wanted to be truly "DBT Legitimate" and or strike out on my own I'd have to take the training. I'd be curious to hear thoughts on PCIT certification if anyone has them.
