I will be taking my OATs in a couple of months. Should I apply to schools regardless and send my OAT scores in later? My only concern is if I do poorly on my OATs, then I would have spent $$$ applying to various schools for nothing. So which is better? Applying now and taking my chances, or do my exam and apply shortly after, taking my chances of a later application (do seats go fast?!).

Thanks for any advice.

I posted in the other forum, as you inquired at both places, see my response in there🙂

Applying as early as possible is always the best way to go.

If you do well on your OAT (anything about 310 AA and a decent GPA), applying early will most likely give you a better chance of getting into a school; however, if OAT score is below average then your money is down the drain. Remember some school will give you an interview invitation if you have an above average GPA; however, most schools don’t make any decision until they get your OAT score and the rest of your recommendation letters. A better scenario would be having an average OAT and GPA who applies early would have a better chance of getting into schools vs an average OAT, GPA who applies late.

What is considered late?
I plan to take OAT in November and turn in all my application stuff by end of November as well. So it will be either a little bit before or around the same time. I'm trying to be ready and tried to get it done by the end of this month, but I don't think I could get it all done in time. I also still need to get letters of recommendation.

I sent in my applicaitons around Jan., which is quite late. I took my OAT in Oct. But I'm a big procrastinator! Just try to turn it in ASAP because by the time I interviewed at IU, they almost had filled up their seats. When they contacted me to inform me of my acceptance two weeks later, I had like 3 days to decide because they only had a couple seats left. I also think I got waitlisted at SUNY because I applied late and they knew they significantly more applicants last year (thus they had to be more picky about who they could accept or not). So don't let your procastination influence whether you get accepted or not!
